From the ATP-Decision In The Case Of Giorgio Galimberti

London. – The ATP, governing body of the men’s professional tennis circuit, announced today that Giorgio Galimberti, Italy, has been found to have committed an offence under Article C.1 of the 2008 ATP Tennis Anti Corruption Program, namely wagering on the outcome or any other aspect of an ‘Event’ (tennis matches or competitions).

An ATP investigation launched in August 2007 found that Mr. Galimberti had wagered on tennis matches during a period dating from June 2003 through January 2006. The findings of this investigation were presented to the independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer, Dr. Peter Bratschi.

Oh man who said something pretty big was coming re gambling this week? It was a player too. Going to check.

    ETA:
It was Dick Norman of Belgium. I blogged about it. Here is his quote.

“Anyway, next week another player will be suspended. He already told me he won't agree with the suspension and the fines and will appeal against them. Next week you'll probably read his name in the papers.”

    Another Italian.

I'm shocked. The ATP really ought to figure itself out.

OH, Craig. You are just SO cynical.

I am CERTAIN that the ATP would have been just as harsh if this were about Roger or Nadal.

After all, just HOW am I to enjoy this sport if they don't stop these players from making bets? Even if they ARE betting on matches not involving them.....This is ALL for our own good, dontchaknow.

Throw his sorry tail of the damn tour and be done with it...how pitiful it is for someone to do this but this is minor to what frauds are displayed in other sports like NBA,NFL, and college sports. The ATP is being hands on which I will applaud but you got to do better than this.

Ugh. It's so aggravating to see people punished for making small bets on other players years ago.
