Re: Great Tennis Journalism
Thought this was a great tag line in Sports Illustrated's Tennis articles - the actual article correctly identifies Tipsarevic.

From a story about the Tennis Australia/Bernard Tomic controversy....
several of his teammates have also spoken publicly about his bizarre behavior including Davis Cup teammate Samantha Stosur.

Big John Isner must have had some work done over the off season. Never thought that much of his looks before, but now he is definitely swoon-worthy...

They are really doing a good job lately.
The SI tennis page had a link today that stated "Serena drops Venus".
Of course, it was Sharapova that beat Venus.

Maybe she physically dropped her and Venus landed on her forehand, which would explain so much about last night's match.

Re: Great Tennis Journalism
ESPN2 while showing the Berdych-Anderson tiebreaker showed a portion of the men's draw and already wrote in Berdych as the winner even though it was only 6-6 in the breaker. Then right after to preview Djokovic's match they showed a graphic of him and Stan and for Djokovic they had a Canadian flag under his name

Re: Great Tennis Journalism
The ABCNews24 twp part series on Rod Laver, great doco journalism....got me reminiscing and I wrote the following:
--------------------------
ROD LAVER
The Name of Action2
As I ate dinner with my wife yesterday: chicken schnitzel, mashed and salad--a meal I had prepared while she was away in the afternoon---we watched the story of Rodney "Rod" Laver(1938-).1 Laver was a former tennis player who holds the record for most singles titles won in the history of tennis, with 200 career titles. Laver helped Australia win the Davis Cup four consecutive times from 1959–62. These were my high school years in Canada, my years of success with the Burlington baseball all-stars, my non-success with girls, and my first years in the Canadian Baha’i community. The name Laver occasionally drifted into my world in this small town in Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe.
In 1962, Laver became only the second male player to win all four Grand Slam singles titles in the same year. He was ranked World No. 1 for seven consecutive years, from 1964 to 1970. He is the only tennis player, male or female to have twice won the Grand Slam, all four major singles titles in the same year – first as an amateur in 1962 and second as a professional in 1969. In 1971 Laver became the first tennis player to surpass US$1 million in career prize money.
The years 1962 to 1971 were my years at university, the first years of my marriage and my career in teaching, and the first decade of travelling in Canada and overseas as a pioneer for the Baha’is of Canada.-Ron Price with thanks to 1Australian Story: The Slam-The Rod Laver Story, 6:30-7:00 p.m.,13/1/’13 and 20/1/’13, ABC News24.
I’ve never really been into
tennis except playing a few
games from the late ‘50s to
the early ’70s, & watching
a few serves now-and-then
with my wife after we got a
TV: from ’77--’13…...I get
sleepy, & my mind wanders.
Laver is not really into tennis
now at the age of 75; he cares
for his wife & argues with her
as he heads into his final years.
His pale cast of thought has lost
the name of action as he prepares
to enter that undiscovered country
a place where no traveller returns.2
