Re: Soccer/Football
The match itself was very good, but penalties were...
I can't remember another elite level match with so poorly struck penalties...

Actually, I may have enough time to "catch up" to it on PVR now that hockey is done...giving it a go!

My German co-worker is having his say, but I'm honestly neutral...couple minutes in and have almost 90 minutes left in my work shift...like it was meant to be
(cue something breaking at work)

Or cue my shift finishing around the same time extra time did. I had to finish it this AM at work. Bet Munich wishes they subbed Robben off instead of Muller. Baffling performance for the most part by the Munich forwards.

Good start to Euro 2012 today. Poland and Greece drew 1-1 (in a match lacking in quality but high in drama) and Russia hammered the Czechs 4-1. Russia should win the group comfortably as the other teams are very average.
The 'group of death' begins tomorrow with Netherlands vs Denmark and Germany vs Portugal.
Overall, there are 4 main favorites to win the championship - Spain, Germany, Netherlands and France. Russia and Italy look the best of the rest (though the latter are involved in a domestic match fixing scandal....for a change).

My bet is on Russia getting overconfident by the time they get out of group.

They often seem to underachieve (even in some of the qualification campaigns). But they did really well in this 4 years ago.
Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko (when he came on) looked really sharp. They've got goals in them. Defending might be their biggest problem....if/when they get to the better teams.

Yup.
Meanwhile, Michael Ballack is now an ESPN commentator. He speaks about 5 words per minute, but that's ok, because that means they show him longer.

Anyone watching the Holland game? The Dutch are losing despite having 75% posession and 80% of goal chances!

Re: Soccer/Football
Dutch have certainly missed a few great chances.
