Did you see the original, shtexas? It is a good story that could have been a great movie, but I always thought they came up short. But I am excited for the remake, as there has been some very positive buzz about it even prior to Whitney's unfortunate passing.

Never saw the original and I should have because I always loved Irene Cara.

Re: The Music Thread
The DVD/CD of Sade's 2011 "Bring Me Home" Tour came out today, my copy was here when I got home from work tonight. I saw the tour when it hit Philly, just a fantastic show. And the DVD is a flat out wonderful capture of the show. Especially in an era where songs are auto-tuned, artists are photo-shopped, and live vocals are pre-recorded beyond anything resembling "live", enjoying an artist's gorgeous visage (Helen's 53, and remains near flawless), and appreciating the cracks in her voice as she reaches for notes, makes the DVD all that more enjoyable.
Here's the opening number from the tour, "Soldier Of Love".

Re: The Music Thread
Has anyone else been following the Erykah Badu/Flaming Lips stuff? They did a song/video together, a cover of Roberta's "First Time Ever....". A video was shot, and somehow, an unapproved, unedited NSFW version slipped out onto the internet.
Erykah's latest shot:
"perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist's brand...By the way you are an ass."

Re: The Music Thread
Sorry for going on with Zaz but here's another of her songs: "La Fée" (the fairy).
Translation:
I also have a fairy at home
On the streaming gutters
I found her on a roof
In the burning hot train of her dress
It was one morning, it smelt like coffee
Everything was covered in frost
She had hidden under a book
And the moon was ending up drunk
I also have a fairy at home
And the train of her dress is burnt
She certainly knows she cannot
And will never be able to fly again
Others tried before her
Before you, another one was here
I found her folded under her wings
And I thought she was cold
I also have a fairy at home
From my shelves she looks down
To the television, thinking
That outside it's war
She reads miscellaneous periodicals
And stays at home
At the window, counting the hours
At the window, counting the hours
I also have a fairy at home
And when she takes her breakfast
She makes a noise with her roasted wings
And I know well she's dissolute
But I prefer to kiss her
Or hold her between my fingers
I also have a fairy at home
Who would like to fly but cannot.

Re: The Music Thread
You may have heard of the stage collapse at a venue that was being prepared for a Radiohead show in Toronto this past Saturday. Just as crew members started doing the sound check, the metal canopy over the stage, which supported a number of video screens, collapsed and crushed one crew member to death, killing two others.
http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...stigation?bn=1
One creepy co-incidence: Foster the People were to headline a show at the same venue tomorrow night (not cancelled yet, as far as I've heard, but given that the stage is still dangerous and the subject of a death investigation, likely to be). The video I linked about a page back depicts just such an incident, where the lighting rigs falls on and kills the band in warm-up, and they have to be "re-animated" to preform.

Re: The Music Thread
Anyone familiar with Twin Shadow?
He's a musician who was born in the Dominican Republic but raised in Florida. Kinda hard to explain his music, but I am loving this song (The video, not so much). A close friend of mine tried to turn me on to him two or so years ago, but I just couldn't get into him at the time. Started listening to him again recently and really like some of his stuff (particularly "Slow" and this song).
Anyway, he's releasing a new album this year, and I just found out about his most recent single (which I guess was released earlier this month or last. I dunno). Really good!
The actual song starts at 1:39
"I'll never fall, never fall like that again
Names, and dates, and faces. Places you were happy
I'll never fall, never fall like that again"

Re: The Music Thread
NME Magazine is celebrating it's 60th Anniversary - and has published its list of the Top 100 songs of the last 60 years as part of the celebration. Here's the Top 20 - while heavily showing its British roots, its a great list. A few of these are in my own personal top songs of all times, and I think all but 3 are on my Ipod.
1. Joy Division – 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'
2. Pulp – 'Common People'
3. David Bowie – '"Heroes"'
4. The Beach Boys – 'Good Vibratons'
5. New Order – 'Blue Monday'
6. The Stone Roses – 'She Bangs The Drums'
7. The Smiths – 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'
8. The Specials – 'Ghost Town'
9. Dizzee Rascal – 'Fix Up, Look Sharp'
10. Oasis – 'Wonderwall'
11. The Rolling Stones – 'Sympathy For The Devil'
12. The Ronettes – 'Be My Baby'
13. Michael Jackson – 'Billie Jean'
14. Sex Pistols – 'God Save The Queen'
15. The Beatles – 'A Day In The Life'
16. The Cure – 'Boys Don't Cry'
17. Bob Dylan – 'Like A Rolling Stone'
18. The Beach Boys – 'God Only Knows'
19. Madonna – 'Like A Prayer'
20. The Stone Roses – 'I Am The Resurrection'

Re: The Music Thread
Not a huge fan of NME; Mine would be slightly different, but I like their list.
I never could get into that song from The Specials. I still have it on my ipod, but I always seem to skip it when it comes on shuffle, haha.
"Like a prayer" is probably in my top three favourite Madonna songs (the other would be "Frozen" and "Take a bow").
"Wonderwall should be higher, I think, at least out of those listed.
"Blue Monday"
"I'll never fall, never fall like that again
Names, and dates, and faces. Places you were happy
I'll never fall, never fall like that again"
