Anyone else a Tracey Thorn (EBTG) Fan?
man, do I love this girls voice. "Missing" was their biggest hit, but Everything But The Girl's been around forever. And been missing for the last almost ten years, outside of some remix and unreleased product that got to the market.
Tracey's back with a new solo disc, coming out the end of the month. One of the most perfect voices in music. Not a huge amount of range, but so much emotion. I put her in the same class as Sade, in that she knows exactly how to use her instrument to convey maximum emotion, and hit those notes that just make you think "this woman's voice is haunting".
First song off the new disc:

ever hear any of the stuff she did with Massive Attack, Bea? "Protection" is my fave, but they also did a remake of the old Marvelettes song "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game".
There are some alternate mixes of "It's All True", along with some other things from her new album, on her MySpace page:

Awesome. Yeah, I have the Massive Attack CD. Just ripped it to my iPod actually. She puts you in a mood. If you weren't in it before, she'll stick you there in like 3 seconds. Walking Wounded in their best CD.

"Walking Wounded" in a word...wonderful. She also did some stuff with The Style Council, whom I also loved.
If you like Massive Attack, are you familiar with Portishead, Bea? How about Lamb? Moorcheba?
And speaking of female vocalists that just hit you somewhere special, have you ever heard Ambrosia Parsley, of the band Shivaree?

You are speaking my language. LOOOOOVE Portishead, really enjoy Lamb and Morcheeba. Haven't heard of Ambrosia, but you have to love the name. If you like any of this you have to like Bjork, no?

"Venus As A Boy" is one of my all time favorite songs. As is "I've Seen It All", the duet she did with Thom from Radiohead on the "Dancer In The Dark" soundtrack. But "Medula" left me kind of scratching my head.
A link to Shivaree's site...if you get a chance, give a listen to a song called "Lost In A Dream". It's gorgeous.

hey (yo) you,
I brought up Lamb for your sake. You only had about 8 more minutes to jump in this thread before I called you out on it.

morct, you oughta check 'em out. I think these are all pretty good, "if you like X, you'll like Y" comparisons.
And I'd also throw in Delerium and Faithless.

We should have a dance party! Like a somber moody dance party. I'll bring the goose dress.
