Ugh! This is tough. Much easier if there are some seeds, like in the majors. All these non-seeds. None are trustworthy. So, I will go with the player I trust the least:

Go Mardy Fish! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't let me down.

    Sargis Sargsian for me, thanks.
And yeah, the non-seeds playing each other make this tough

    How tough?

Can Mardi finally get a win over Zib on his third try?

Can Philippoussis avenge his loss to Christophe Rochus at a challenger in Florida earlier this year?

Can Beck claim his first victory over Lapentti after 2 losses in 2003? He's playing a lot better this year (8-8 vs 0-3).

Is this Young's first chance for a win or will the veteran Lisnard prevail?

This is Koubek's first match since his suspension but at least he's not 0-5 this year like Morrison.

Minar may be the lucky loser but he's ahead of Monaco this year (4-2 vs 3-7).

Muller is certainly promising but he's behind Zabaleta this year (3-6 vs 7-7).

Berdych may have won against Federer but can we be sure he'll take out Clement?

Mello won his only match vs Ventura but that was on clay.

I like Sargsian but he's getting on in years and Benneteau likes to surprise and they've never played.

Seems like Karlovic should take Olivier Rochus but they're 1-1 and Olivier is hot this year (12-6 vs 3-5).

Hernych is doing better than Sanguinetti this year but they've never played and you can never count Sanguinetti out in the first round.

Calatrava's had a miserable year, but he leads Phau in head to head and still has one point on him in the Champion's Race (because he's 1-6 and Phau's 1-1).

Hanescu seemed promising a year or so ago but Dupuis won their only match. Both are 2-5 this year but Dupuis must have won his matches at bigger events because he's ahead in points.

Mayer made some waves last year in the grass season but neither he nor Burgsmuller have done much this year.

Mathieu has never played Tabara but he's won more matches this year (9-6 vs 3-2) and Tabara has been one of my least favorite players since he spit at Gimelstob after a loss several years ago.

So, like Bets, I take Mathieu.

    I am going with Lisnard.

This truely was a tough pick this time.

3mlm thanks for the last thread, you provided some interesting facts that I did not know.

I figure this is a win - win pick for me. Sometimes I feel that I curse the player I pick and I am looking forward to Donald winning his first ATP event. So, either I go on in the pool or I get drunk in the lounge and toast Donald!!! [smiley=overhead_clap.gif]

yeah, I thought I had this thing figured out until I read 3m's analysis ... now I'm completely confused :

    thanks tho, interesting facts ...

I like catz' reasoning, and I'm thinkin Young's game isn't ready for the pros ... so Lisnard for me.

If we're wrong, I'll see ya in the Loser's Lounge for that toast catz!

    Seb,

We go in the pool and just hope Donald doesn't get discouraged playing with the big guys.......he will have his day!!

I recently acquired several bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild Bordeaux.........we can toast our pool win with some great wine but save the best for another moment.

I thought I was toast when Fish didn't hold serve when he was serving for it in the 2nd. Then again, when Fish was broken to open the third. But, he broke back. Then yet again when he was broken the next time he served. But, he got it together.

    Sargsian - what a disappointment.
