Venus vs Davenport (Wimbledon '05) is my favorite match of tennis that has ever been played.

The chair in the '84 US Open Final between Evert and Navratilova had a tough day didn't she?

And Martina didn't help herself with the crowd did she?

Having lived through that period: Martina NEVER made it easy on herself. The criticism was off the scale and although it was not her fault, her attitude on court turned a lot of people off. Not to mention that tiny little issue about her, uhm, choices (that was how it was spoken about then). It was difficult for her.
And still, she became what she became. My opinion: the best ever.

It can't have been easy for her especially because of her "choices" (I know that labeling being gay a "choice" is not acceptable to the LGBTQ community but back then it was different) but she made it hard on herself. Did she relish being the villain? I don't know if anyone has ever asked her. But during that match she seemed to pick fights with the chair on purpose which ended up flustering the chair even more, and turning the crowd towards Evert.

You know what else ticked me off about that match? I should say who else. John Lloyd sitting there like he was watching paint dry. Your wife is out there fighting her ass off and he's like "whatever".

Before I get roasted. I used the words "her choices" because that was how some people thought about it then. Of all the idiotic arguments against LGBTQ'ness, the "choice" argument is pretty stupid. So it is one euphemism that I truly dislike.
