    Re: '20 Racquet Smashing Contest

For those who say that the art is dead and nothing can be done better, Fabio just punched his racquet and sent it flying. Yes, it barely qualifies since their was no damage to the racquet (the hand is another story ), but it comes to show that there are innovations to be made, roads to be traveled, new ideas to develop.

I am so inspired right now. Hearing Soaring Eagle music.

But the craft is in peril. Chair Umpires are calling WARNINGS on players just by tossing the racket. No destruction is needed to get reprimanded. So true, total destruction can only be performed after match point.

Also, he's working on his technique I think, because I saw a fail as well. This one has excellent bounce, the other one was a joke, looked more like a blooper.

Just like comedies at the Oscars, this may never win, but I think it should be a contender. The intent is the same, with the result of total surprise and delight.

I saw the other one where he really punched his racquet. His knuckeles were all red (not blood) after that when the camera caught them.

I thought Fabio deserves a 7 for that effort. I mean in one motion he conveyed everything we look for. That high bounce puts him in contention.

I realize it's not a racquet smash, but especially because we rarely get much from WTA players in here, I really think Sonya Kenin deserves an honorable mention in here for her violent ball bounce following many of her service games in the Aussie Open Final. It's really a new move for her, I've watched her plenty in the past year and a half to know she didn't remotely do this after every single service game like she's been doing the last several matches. She didn't even do it earlier in the tournament. And I mean, she could get a ball abuse warning if she keeps this up!

I'm hoping for a racquet smash from her this year, seems like it could be epic.

This isn't a racquet smash either but Denis, this doesn't seem like a very good idea...

Sort of a racquet smash fail from Daniil Medvedev. Excellent bounce really, but when you almost injure yourself...

Agree. He almost took his eye out! Great bounce though.
