Tiz the Dude will run in today's night cap at Gulfstream Park West. 7.5 furlongs, and assuming rain doesn't hit between now and then, he'll FINALLY get to run on the turf. Other than the lower level purse money, this is precisely where we've been trying to position him all along. Edgard Zayas will be on board. Claiming price is $25000. He is the second choice on the morning line at 7/2. That's probably about right.

Just FYI, that didn't go well at all, LOL! Tiz the Dude broke better than he did in his first two starts, which was very encouraging. Then on the first turn, he got pushed out a bit by the 2 horse, recovered, lost ground going into the second turn, gained ground on the second turn, then completely blew the second turn, and then Edgard gave up in the stretch (with good reason). The fact it started to pour rain right before the race probably didn't help, but they were all affected by that--so no excuse.

    So, either:

    1) He doesn't really like turf as much as we thought (his early works certainly suggested so)
    2) He doesn't like two turns
    3) He needs more time to adapt to turf/two turns
    4) He's really meant to be a dirt sprinter, which would be far more consistent with his pedigree

    Needless to say, we're confused.

    Here's the race:

    Re: Horse Racing Random Random

Is it too early to start talking about the 2021 Kentucky Derby? Because this happened in the second race today at Del Mar. It was a $57K maiden special weight race (horses not available to be claimed). Life is Good is a 2-year-old making his debut.

Life is Good is trained by Baffert, owned by WinStar, and bred by Gary and Mary West. He was purchased as a yearling for $525K. Like Authentic, he is a son of Into Mischief, but Life is Good is out of a Distorted Humor mare that was winless in five starts (she finished second once and third three times, but she always put up respectable speed figures).

Life is Good put up an Equibase speed figure of 107--IN HIS DEBUT.

Amie, you'll like this. Mike Smith never had a reason to go to the whip. He barely pressured the back of the neck in the stretch.
