The key thing to remember - our Serena picker today already used Halep and is out of picks after today.

4 people picked Halep and only have Strycova left
2 picked Strycova and have Halep left
1 picked Serena and has no more picks

    So:

If Serena wins today we have 5 winners - the 5 who survived today all would have no picks left
If Strycova wins today we have 2 winners - IF they remember to actually post their Halep pick in the finals thread...won't matter if she wins final or not See below I'm dumb

If Strycova wins today, couldn't there be more winners if the Halep pickers can still pick Strycova for the final?

Oh...duh. Yes. Ignore me We'd have 6 people with eligible picks for the final and the final result WOULD matter. Sorry
    Thanks for the medal Johanna!

I guess mentally I was just assuming Strycova would lose?

So I think that means we have 5 winners with no picks left?

tennisbrp was right to "be a coward" and pick Serena today. Personally, I don't think it's being a coward if you think that's your best way to win. There is no rule that you have to try to beat the draw so trying to win is just as reasonable strategy in my books.

Totally agree. There was no circumstance other than debilitating injury that Strycova was going to beat Serena.

Medals are incredibly hard to win.

Our women's pool officially ends today after this breakdown:

    Halep 4
    Strycova 2
    S. Williams 1

And with that, everyone is out of picks! We have 5 winners, and I will be announcing them shortly!

I think I am still learning things with these situations. I am on vacation so really paid less attention to the overall draw and then I picked Halep too early but as you both say this is so much more difficult than it looks. I have only beaten the draw once and it was a total fluke

Sometimes paying less attention helps and steers you away from matches you would've picked otherwise (and lost!)

And to think... Wimbledon is the easiest of the suicide pools because there's only 1 R16 pick and 1 QF pick.
