Really nice second set from Mertens, wins her first set against Halep. Deciding set starting now. Live on Tennis Channel if you're in the US.

    Re: WTA P Doha 2/11 - 2/16 2019

It went unmentioned by Tennis Channel, but from 3-all in the first set, Halep won 18 consecutive points.

And she still lost the match to a good but not great player. Strange.

Mertens had the toughter draw. She beat world #8 Bertens, #6 Kerber and #3 Halep. Her match vs Bertens was the match of the tournament for me and made me think she could win it all, especially since she had no business winning that match.

Do anyone think that Mertens MTO for lower back had a factor in the match? She took it after she stopped Halep 5 game run, Score was Mertens serving at 3-6,1-2.

    Re: WTA P Doha 2/11 - 2/16 2019

I don't think it was a factor, Halep still played well after, but she needed to close it out in 2 sets. She was clearly gassed in the third, with the long matches in recent days finally catching up with her. Also, while I did think she played extremely well today, it seemed to really take quite a bit of effort for her to play at that level. She was exceptionally noisy today.

Also, she was mumbling to herself much more today than yesterday, so I didn't think she dealt with losing the second set as well as she did versus Svitolina.
