    WTA P ATP 250 Sydney 1/6-1/12 2019

Kvitova beat Sabalenka 1 and 5. In the second, Kvitova served up a break at 4-3, gifted 4 errors, then Sabalenka held for 5-4 on serve. At 15-40, down two set points, Kvitova whipped an amazing down-the-line FH pass on the run. Next point, Sabalenka got a very easy short ball that landed on her own sideline. She had all the time in the world, ran around her BH, and ended up patting it back, not well, and not quite a drop shot. Very odd shot. Kvitova barely reached it, so Sabalenka still had an easy put-away to the entirely open court from mid-court. Pushed it wide. Deuce.

Kvitova quickly held, broke, and held. Veteran’s performance.

I gave serious consideration to doing a Sabalenka for Kvitova trade in AMITS when I saw the draw, but decided not to use a second trade yet...already looking like a bad move. At least I can contest schzio Kvitova in predictions still.
    Thanks for the medal Johanna!

Is it just me or has Kvitova not only lost her pouch but a s**t ton of weight?

She's thin. Very thin. But not alarmingly thin. Yet.

I think she's been much thinner for the last few years, but it's even more noticeable now.

It's a tough call. She's nicknamed P3tra because she plays so many three set matches, and does well in them, so it's easy to say that fitness is important to her game. However, I think focusing on fitness and consistency takes away from her natural game, which is "clobber everything to death."

I always think it's a mistake when aggressive players think "Hey, if I add speed and defense, I'll have everything!" I think Roddick did it for the last several years of his career, and I think Pliskova is doing it now.

My vote: eat pasta and swing harder.

Muguruza already pulled out of her next match with Bertens. It's a repeat of last year's pre-Aussie tournaments.

Edit: withdrew from stomach illness, not injury. Suspected ailments include week-before-Slam-itis. So here's hoping it doesn't become a lingering issue.

    WTA P ATP 250 Sydney 1/6-1/12 2019

Sloane was up a set and 5-4 to Putintseva and lost 6-0 in the third. At one point, she hit a second serve that landed behind the baseline. It is a crying shame that she doesnt have the head or heart for winning yet. She is so ridiculously talented in other aspects of the game and I love to watch her when she is on. But no one likes to watch a player dwell on frustration.

I completely mis-read this one, my perverted psyche processed "doesn't become a lingerie issue" and the train of thoughts derailed on imagery that would ban me from TAT while at the same time I thought "Yes, please!"

Nice to see Barty playing well in her home country.
