The tournament posted very nice pictures of the arena, it looks like maybe it's brand new, but can't be certain. I don't know anything about Zhuhai and if flowers are an important aspect of the city and their tourism or something like that, but the arena itself was designed as a green park, so this photo setting may go along with that.

The WTA has once again proved it is pretty unprofessional.

Day 1 of Zhuhai was broadcast on WTA TV. Day 2. Nothing. No announcement of any kind. One tennis head finally found something that said due to rights, etc. WTA TV would not be carrying the event. Did they mention where you could see it? Nope.

    It's available on TC+

"Unfortunately, due to rights and restrictions implied we will not be able to publish Zhuhai Elite tournament in WTA TV anymore. We do not have any further information regarding the tournament being restrained."

Re: WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai 10/30-11/5 2018

Don't players regularly play two matches in 24 hours many weeks on the tour?

Kasatkina hits out at Zhuhai scheduling after Keys defeat
    by James Edgar

Zhuhai (China) (AFP) - Top seed Daria Kasatkina slammed the tournament scheduling at the WTA Elite Trophy in China on Wednesday after losing in straight sets to Madison Keys.

Kasatkina, 21, was beaten with relative ease by the 23-year-old American, who took 70 minutes to seal the win 6-2, 6-4.

The Russian, who finished her previous round-robin tie against Wang Qiang at 10pm on Tuesday, looked tired on court and had already criticised the match timetable, saying it "sucks".

Asked if she stood by the comments at her post-match press conference on Wednesday, she took a deep breath and said: "Yea. I mean if they want me to pull out of the tournament then they are doing a good job, because in less than 24 hours I've played two matches.

"The girls [Keys and Wang] are not playing tomorrow, they are playing on Friday, and I was supposed to play two matches in less than 24 hours.

"So there's nothing I can say, nothing I can do. I was fighting, I mean I did everything I could.

"I gave more than 100% of my abilities, so this is professional sport."

Keys cruised to take the first set at the Hengqin International Tennis Center, and although Kasatkina put up a fight in the second, the sixth seed clinched the tie.

The American showed little sign of the left knee injury which forced her to retire from her last two tournaments, in Wuhan and Beijing.

After the match, she said: "I think I had a really good start today, and that definitely helped me.

"Overall, I think I just played really solid and went out and did what I needed to do."

And when there is weather more than that sometimes...and that's before even counting doubles. Her first match was just under two hours as well, so not like it was a marathon.
    Thanks for the medal Johanna!

Yeah, I don't feel like making them play 4 indoor matches during a week should be that big of a deal, no matter when they are scheduled.

Agreed. And to my knowledge, playing this tournament comes with GS type of high pay per match, so really not a bad deal.

Wang Qiang had a cute hairstyle today. I'm not sure what they used so that the hair would stay in the braid but I like its playfulness.
