I felt the same way after watching him lose to Murray this summer, so I did some research and began paying attention to all of his matches. He's a world-class choker. His game disintegrates in important moments. I picked him to beat Cilic in the first round of the U.S. Open, and he jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set. He was serving huge, returning huge and dominating every point. Then he won two more games in the match, double faulting right and left and missing the first ball repeatedly before retiring early in the third set. He had an injury by then, but he looked fine physically while dumping six games in a row at the end of the first set. His strokes are very mechanical, so when he gets tight, he loses all feel for the ball. Look at his results over the years, and there are a lot of matches where he just went away after playing well at the start.

If this guy ever gets his head on straight, he can be a heck of a player.

You were right. Copil is indeed pretty good. I don't think I've seen him play before.

I thought Copil would lose his nerve in the third set but he pulled through vs Sascha.

This post convinced me to pick Copil as a finalist in Predictions this week...thanks Dry! (And yes I was the only one.)

Of course I shied away from Federer on the other side so I could still finish near the bottom of scores for this tournament despite it.
    Thanks for the medal Johanna!

    Re: ATP M500 Wien, Basel

So Copil was a break up in both sets but lost in straights (including a collapse from 4-1 to 4-6 in set 2), which totally goes with what you guys have been saying about him this week
