Novak's percentage of 2nd serve points won tells the story of the match - Federer missed too many returns on 2nd serve.

I know that the list of 50 Greatest of all times was done prior to this year, but as much as a Sampras fan as I am, Novak now has only one slam less but like 20 more MS1000's (Sampras only had 11). Novak should, at least, be #4 (because the Laver imponderable will always be there).
And this entire collection of masters: if I were to bet on it, it will not be duplicated ever.

Welcome to Novak's new reign. And when he wins the USO in three weeks, I don't care about the rankings. He will be #1 (for me, at least)

I’ve watch every Djokovic match this week, and the only suggestion I’ve seen that he has s chance of winning the Open is the way he played in the third set against Cilic. Other than that I’m mystified how he won this tournament. Cilic could have beaten him in straight sets, Raonic SHOULD have beaten him in straight sets. Dimitrov SHOULD have beaten him in straight sets. Rogers return of serve today was MIA, they were both pretty crappy off the ground by their standards. Even Mannarino got a set off of him. All I can put it down to is that his fear factor has returned since he won Wimbledon and people are too scared to finish him off

    Re: ATP M1000 WTA P5 W&S Open 8/11-8/19 2018

Djokovic did not play that well for most of the tournament, but he played very well yesterday. Sure, Federer's return of serve was awful, but Djokovic was hitting the corners with precision and power from start to finish, which for most of their careers has intimidated Federer into playing poorly.

I'm on the fence about Djokovic at the U.S. Open. His level is not as high as Nadal's on hard courts right now, but he has beaten Rafa seven times in a row without losing a set on the surface and clearly has had a mental edge on him, too, as proven again at Wimbledon. Plus, I believe Rafa still has never has won any tournament outside of clay in consecutive years. It's hard for me to picture Nadal beating him in New York, although Rafa's last two hard court wins v. Djokovic were decisive four-set victories in U.S. Open finals.

But when both players play well, Djokovic is simply better than Nadal in their matchup. He gets ahead on the first strike (serve and return) consistently.

EDIT: I see Nadal did beat Djokovic in the ATP finals in 2010 after beating him at the U.S. Open that year, so two of his last three wins on hard courts came at the U.S. Open.
