Going into the start of the clay season, none of the former French Open champions are doing particularly well.

Halep - ranked #2. #9 in the race. Has a brand new coach.
Serena - ranked #11. #28 in the race. Currently injured.
Muguruza - ranked #19. #12 in the race. Currently insane.
Sharapova - ranked #28. #56 in the race. Currently injured.
Ostapenko - ranked #31. #84 in the race. Currently insane.
Kuznetsova - ranked #110. #268 in the race. Just returned from injury.

Halep still a favorite, but not by a huge margin.
