Lorne is producing this year on NBC. He could've gone with Seth or Jimmy if they were open to doing it again this year, but this is a good launch for Michael and Colin's season on SNL and should be good for the show. On-air talent on the hosting channel is strongly preferred lately limiting the options. There also haven't been two hosts in a while and that's become a more popular choice of late, so they may have wanted to try that again (only this time have it be people with an actual connection that might work on stage). They aren't my favorite WU hosts, but Colin and Michael definitely have their fans, which is why they've lasted for a several seasons now.

Also worth noting is that with the win for, I believe Outstanding Variety Special, the great and good John Legend captured the coveted EGOT, becoming the youngest(ish - I'm not willing to do the exact math but he's tied at 39 with Robert Lopez) ever and first African-American man to do so. And spectacularly, the legendary Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber also EGOTed for the same win.

Re: 2018 Emmy Noms & Discussion

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel really cleaned up. The first episode is available on Youtube, if anyone without Amazon Prime wants to check it out. Their win also means that Amazon and Hulu have won a best series award before Netflix.

Bill Hader was a revelation in Barry. I'm glad he won

I haven't watched Godless yet, but Merritt Wever is fantastic in everything, so I'm always happy if she wins something.

The Black Mirror episode that won is my favorite of the whole series.

Not a fan of plenty of these people winning. But thrilled for Regina who I've loved since 227. She can play literally any role and doesn't get nearly enough attention for the excellence she pulls off in every kind of role.

And while I will hold on to my bitterness, and hold on to it strongly, for The Americans never winning for Best Drama and Keri Russell never winning Best Actress and all three being snubbed for entirely too long on just getting nominations while recognizing and rewarding Margo Martindale, I am beyond thrilled for Matthew Rhys for his most deserving Best Actor win. And with a speech to make you love him even more.
