Re: '18 Wimby Day 6 OoP & Discussion

Zverev down 0-2 in the deciding set against Gulbis, who has won 12 out of the last 13 points and has all the momentum

Zverev is such a mystery. Winning M1000's, not even close to doing well in Slams.

When you're one of the biggest servers on tour, losing 6-0 in the fifth on grass is a problem.

What a horrible referee sequence that was.

I disagree. I think she'll win several more RG titles. Grass will never happen, though.

It was really smart of Gulbis to refuse to take a two sets to one lead on Zverev today when he served for the third set at 5-3. Being down 2-1 is where Zverev is most dangerous.

Seriously, though, Zverev too often becomes a pusher. He played that way all last summer, started hitting through his forehand in the European clay court events, when I bought into his future greatness for the first time, reverted back to pushing at Roland Garros and did it again at Wimbledon. It is impossible to win a slam that way. He also has been skunked in the fifth set of two slams this year. He won six points in the last set today. That's a bad look.

Gulbis always has been one of my favorite ball-strikers. It was beautiful watching him deconstruct Zverev with forehand and backhand slices, drop shots and lobs. He played a very intelligent match, which he is capable of in the 10 percent of the time he is fully committed to the sport.

He was quoted as saying he had a stomach bug on day 1 in his match against Fritz, throwing up, not eating anything for breakfast before the rsumption of their match. After his defeat he said he didn't have any energy left because of that after the third set.

That sounds like what happened to Tiafoe.
