Re: '18 RG Day 12 OoP & Discussion

It's not that Stephens is tough for Halep, it's more about it being a Slam final. If Halep plays below average Sloane is more than competent enough...

The same as last year, I'm hoping for an easy match for Halep but not anticipating one. Like Mouratoglou said the other day, she probably will have some ups and downs due to tension.

She will need to win the important points, like she did today with that running forehand runner off of Muguruza's rocket return down break point at 4-all in the second. If she had lost that game, she might have lost the match. Instead, she won seven straight points to close out a comprehensive win.

Halep needed to win in two sets and she did. The ninth game where it was 4 all in the second set was really a great display of tennis from both women. If Mugu had won she'd be in the final. I don't think Halep could've held it together for a third set.

Halep has one of the best third-set records in tennis. She's a lot more mentally tough than her reputation.

Yeah slam finals have been her only "choking" point.
    Thanks for the medal Johanna!

I don't think she choked in any of the finals, and I have not heard anyone say she choked against Sharapova in 2014 or Wozniacki this year.

She certainly has quit trying in multiple matches at slams and tour events, but that's a different issue than choking.

Agreed, and the second issue is one she shares with Sloane. They might be top of the list.
