Puig just beat Kerber in a cracking match. Angie played at a pretty high level but Puig was quite brilliant. When I see her play like that it baffles me how she isnít ranked higher

Good question. She showed up at an event in China woefully out of playing shape and hasn't been seen since.

The Moscow wasn't particularly strong in the first place, but now it's hilarious.

Kasatkina has to be a significant favorite at this point. It's a good opportunity for her to grab her home title.

1-2-3-4-6-8 all out in same day (and #5 was already out in round 1.) That's gotta be one of the wackiest days ever.

Three of us did pick #7 (Gorges) to win though!

Wertheim's podcast with Courtney Nguyen shed a lot of light on why players perform the way they do in Asia. A lot of them are thrown off by language (often getting the wrong food from room service), atmosphere, and other culture-shock stuff. Evidently it's a stark contrast to the rest of the calendar. Some people thrive there (Kvitova has become a darling in China, and she loves it), some don't.

Wertheim said he didn't read too much into Sloane's losses, or really any results in Asia
