    I knew that if we were going to have someone else join the "long" list of #1 seeds to win a WTA tournament this year, Rybarikova would (possibly) be the one.

    Maria beat Sabalenka 7-5 7-6 to take the title. Sabalenka was 5-1 up in the second set but couldn't close it out. She reminds me a little of Ivanovic, she is really attractive and marketable, has a flat hit or miss forehand, and the most annoying of fist pumps

    Gavrilova also lost a 3rd set TB at Birmingham, the USO, and Tokyo. That's a rough set of losses. (She did win one against Barty on clay before those.)

    I think not have a big weapon to rely on must hurt her in those situations.
