Week 1 is in the books and the points have been tallied. Proving that even a broken clock is right twice a day, our big winner for the week is munchin, being the only player with D.C. finalist Goerges on his team, as well as all 4 losing semifinalists. Right behind is mysterx, who rode the victories of Madison Keys and Makarova to 283 points. And in the 'show' position is ponchi101, who also had Keys and Makarova for 276 points. And just like that, it's already time for a big tournament, with Toronto starting tomorrow. The points go up a bit, so look for a shakeup already. Stay tuned!

Man, I had both winners, 5 of 8 semi finalists and a couple of quarterfinalists and still landed third? Tough crowd to beat!!!

Only 3 players had either Wozniacki or Svitolina on their team this week. Guess which three players ran away with it this week! Wisely picking Svitolina, our Toronto winner this week, Ribbons catapults to a big weekly win. Just behind we have patrick who put together a good time that included runner-up Wozniacki. Ditto for skatingfan, whose 152 points are worth an easy third place finish.

Overall, the top 2 stay the same, but in flipped positions, with mysterx edging ahead munchin by three points, 391 to 388. Waylandbow-tw outperformed everyone ahead of him in the rankings and thusly jumps 3 big spots to third place at 366.

Another big tournament coming up, starting tomorrow. No rest for the wicked! Stay tuned.

I would like to point out that it does not look like I am likely to finish in the top 20 in this contest, YET AGAIN.

Oh whoops, I didn't enter this one......well, same result, anyway.

Cincinnati was a wacky tournament but the finalists were no surprise, which led to some rather high scores this week. Riding the stellar performances of Halep and Muguruza, patrick has stormed to a weekly win with 225 points. With similarly composed teams, dave g takes a 2nd place finish and Drop-shot gets the weekly bronze.

This produces a shakeup at the top. Mysterx maintains the overall lead, but by only 2 points over patrick, who has climbed all the way from the bottom quartile to 2nd place in just a couple weeks. Still hanging out in the #3 position is week 1 leader munchin. Tournaments the week before a Slam are always unpredictable. last-minute pullouts, tanking and spotty entrant list leads to a circumstance where almost anything could happen. Stay tuned!

New Haven was always going to be the wacky wildcard week. The point totals were all over the place - the surprise winner combined with early flameouts and depleted draw made this an impossible tournament to predict. Making the most of it was Ribbons, who was one of only 2 teams containing the winning Gavrilova. In a distant 2nd, we have skatingfan, who benefited from Cibulkova's finals showing. In third, we have dave g, who also had Gavrilova.

Things remain very tight at the top of the overall rankings. Mysterx is holding onto a razor thin lead over dave g, who surged to the upper echelon based on this week's performance. Well within striking distance is Ribbons at third place. With only the US Open left to go, tons of players are in contention. Expect unprecedentedly high scores in the final week of the contest. Stay tuned.

Well the US Open is in the can on the women's side and that means our contest is too! As expected, the US Open produced some very high scores, shaking up the scoreboard along the way (Or rather, shaking it back to the way it started - more on that later). As unexpected, the winner of the US Open wasn't eligible for the contest. We seem to have made the most out of the hand we were dealt, though. So the big winner this week was...munchin with 375 points! He had the finalist, both losing semifinalists, and overall at least R16 showings from more than half his team. In 2nd place was texasniteowl who also utilized both semifinalists and Madison Keys. Getting third place this week is oploskoffie who also had Keys as well as 2 quarterfinalists.

So, with these results added in, we have 3 medal winners, the top two of whom pulled out ahead in the first week:
Getting the bronze medal, coming in third place, with a great comeback over the course of the contest, we have...Ribbons!

Getting the silver medal, we have the only player to spend every week in the top 3 - Mysterx!

In first place, to the surprise of everyone, the victor and gold medalist is walking, talking, broken clock - Munchin!

Thanks to everyone for playing. This is my, I dunno, umpteenth time running this contest and it never gets old because you're all so much fun. Please also extend a thank you to dave g and mysterx, who did a lot of work behind the scenes to keep THRNY running, as well as the hardworking volunteer Contest Staff. We hope to see you next year on The Hard Road to New York.

What a lovely surprise -- had imagined myself out of the running after my Muguruza vs. Svitolina scenario evaporated.

Congrats to the owl and the broken clock, and grateful thanks to munchin, daveg, mysterX, dry, and the rest of you staff for making it so much more fun to follow the tournaments. Second rounds are so much more interesting when one has additional reasons to cheer for the likes of Zheng, Osaki, and Haddad Maia.
