World's highest payed athletes; breaks apart winnings and endorsements.

    Visualization of top:

    Longer list including others:

Maybe last year? I'm actually not sure.

Of note: only one woman appears on the list. And she's a tennis player.

When Roger retires, I wonder how much of his endorsements will he keep.
    90%?

Murray ended up below both Djokovic and Nadal despite having the largest winnings of all 4 due to having a lower endorsement total.

Johnny Mac and Tursunov should shut it. An uncalled for and disrespectful hypothetical...

Why is it disrespectful? He does say she is the best female player ever. And women acknowledge that they could not beat a man. Evert, ranked #2 at the time, said her brother still beat her and he was not even ranked.
I know we support women's tennis and all, and we joke sometimes. But to state that they will not beat a man is just a fact. No women has broken the 10 seconds' mark in the 100 meter dash. Many man have. No disrespect, just pointing out a measurement.
I mean, it is the lull before a slam. Reporters have to earn that check.

There is no compensation for the extra 20-30% in power an man has, but those kind of comparisons are just dumb. First you are being a captain obvious and second it tends to be used to belittle female athletes. It's similar to saying that a top class welterweight boxer is a weakling because he wouldn't stand a chance against an elite heavyweight.

JMac has a long and public disdain for women's tennis and every chance he gets he bashes the women. What he's saying is that well yeah she's good, for a girl. He's arguing that when all is said and done any man is still better than Serena.

    As for Tursunov...

    Tennis Random, Random 2.0

JMac just can't keep his mouth shut about anything. He never stops talking, and usually about himself. My strategy is to mute/ignore as much as possible.

By the way, he did a Lunch with the FT last weekend. He came off as a real brat and also not interesting. Note that I didn't bother re-posting it here.

    Re: Tennis Random, Random 2.0

There was a time when Serena and Venus suggested that could compete on the mens' tour. That was a dumb statement -- especially when they each lost a set 6-2 and 6-1 to a chain smoking journeyman.

Whenever anyone representative of the sport brings up the notion that the top women couldn't be competitive against the men, it is an equally dumb notion to bring up.

Why does this comparison only come up in tennis might be a better question.

She and Venus each played one set against Braasch. I'd call it a practice set.

I think the McEnroe interview something like this:

Interviewer: Do you believe that Serena is the best female tennis player ever:

JMAC: Yes, (with expansion - great serve, fighter, etc...)

Interviewer: What would Serena be ranked if she were competing against the men?

JMAC: (answer that was quoted in the article)

This was at a time in their relatively young careers when they were routinely saying they were strong enough to compete on the men's tour.

Not sure exactly how the "matches" came to be, but they never did it again with another male player.

It wasn't an exo, it was at the AO on the practice or outer courts. No media, no coverage but it's part of tennis lore since they were out to prove their point and the results were talked about in the tennis universe.
