Re: 2015 NBA Finals: Cavs vs. Warriors

Lucky for the CAVS that they get three days rest now. If the series would be on only two days, they would be lost by Saturday.
So it only took Steve Kerr 12 quarters to figure out what everybody else already knew: you can't contain Lebron one on one. Selective double teams, get him tired, and if JR Smith beats you, well, too bad. But what are the chances of that?
Worrisome for the CAVS: neither Curry nor Thompson have exploded for any good quarter yet. That is bound to happen, while Lebron already exploded for two games. If averages matter (and they don't), one explosion from each splash brother and this could be over in 6.

    2015 NBA Finals: Game 4

    Summary:

    Golden State 103
    Cleveland 82

Golden State converts 46.8% from the field and 40% of 3 pointers, 4 starters get double digit points, and beats a slumping Cleveland by 21
Lebron scores 20 but misses 5 free throws, Cleveland was only good 33% from the field.

    Series tied 2-2
Best of three will decide it now.

    2015 NBA Finals: Game 5

    Summary:

    Cleveland 91
    Golden State 104

LeBron scores 40 points to achieve a triple double in game 5 but it's not enough as Cleveland fails to reach 100+ points and loses by 13

    Golden State leads series 3-2

Cleveland has reached 100 points once in the series (game 1, overtime). And despite the smaller line-up, GSW has rebounded better.
I still believe Kerr is doing a lousy job not double teaming LBJ, but as long as he is winning he can get away with that.
Game 7 lurks ahead. LBJ will not lose at home.

It was one man against 5 and the five won. No matter how you feel about LeBron and his abilities he could not do it alone. Shumpert and Smith were all but invisible. The only man who really wanted it on Cleveland was Mozgov. He was a demon at center but when he was taken out the game was over.

I didn't believe all the hype about Steph Curry even after he won the league MVP. I get it now. Iguodala, who didn't start a game during the regular season quietly showed his worth and deserved the series MVP although there are some who still think James should have gotten it. He was trying to play all positions but that is impossible.

It was a very good series though.

Without LBJ this series would have been a GSW sweep. And the reality is that as much as GSW were the favorites, that K. Irving injury sealed the deal.
I would have given Lebron the MVP trophy. I suspect they did not because they could not have found him; he left the court in a hurry. But his stats were amazing. He IS the best player in the planet, and if only he would learn to be humble about it he would be, dare we say, likable (not that he is not adored by his fans).
But as you say, it was 5 players against one, with some help. Golden State played better basketball, Lebron just went one on one with whomever was in front of him.
Strange: for the second year, the Finals MVP goes to the player that played the best defense. Against LBJ.
Too bad the NBA is done for the season.
    Go SPURS!!!!!!

Doris Burke (the woman in the group picture) has very quietly become one of the best in the business. There were a lot of comments about her professionalism not only from fans but from the pro journos on Twitter last night.

I find that the women covering basketball (Burke, Heather Cox for ESPN) are so much more reasonable than the usual group of buffoons wearing suits.
Then again, they are covering a game, so being serious is not a requisite.

What makes Burke stand out is that she is not a "babe". Her persona is "serious sports nerd" and you can tell the players and brass respect her.
