Would a backyard tennis court help?

We are moving into a house that has a space for us to build a tennis court in the backyard. My daughter is 8 yrs old and is starting to really get into the sport but we have very limited facilities in our area. The problem is the space we have will allow us to accommodate the width of a court (28") but will not allow for the length (only can do about 64"). I'm a basketball coach (no experience with tennis until my daughter began playing a couple years ago) and having access to a goal and court regardless of the dimensions would be beneficial to an athlete but am unsure if this is the case for tennis. So would be interested to hear other opinions if installing an undersized court could realistically be utilized in my daughter's development.

Google "tennis backboard." I think you'd be better off getting something that can help her training without trying to do a weird, wrong version of a whole court.

Sounds like a much better idea (and cheaper) to me, too.

Maybe let her enjoy another sport, maybe soccer, also so she can try a team environment, and even some catch with football or baseball in the backyard with family to get a good overhand throwing motion. Her future serve will thank you for it.

A court of wrong dimension will not help. In tennis, you need to move inside your court, OUTSIDE of your court, and aim at the other court.
Charlie's idea seems the best. Your daughter will need to go to a court with frequency, but a back board is a great way to hone her strokes.
    Good luck!

Meh, just build an inground swimming pool and don't fill it.
I put in the work and wanted it so badly but this guy is the best for a reason. He is such a complete player ... maybe I'll just punch him or something, I don't know. - Andy Roddick
