Can Roger Federer reach 100 titles?

Roger has 84 titles, that is 16 short of the century mark.
Roger is 33! But he did get his 1000th win this year while he was 33!

    Will he or won't he?

Re: Can Roger Federer reach 100 titles?

Seems a touch optimistic...even if he won 5 tournaments each of the next 3 years he'd be short. Since his first tournament win was 2001 that averages to around six a year which includes all his peak years....so I don't see it. He should get into the 90s though.

Seems unlikely because I don't think he plays beyond the next season. 90 would be a fair target, though.

He'd have to play at least 4 more years and play lots of small tournaments. Neither of those things will happen.

Not going to do it but 90 would still be good. (Incredible, in fact).

Can is different than will. He COULD. But most likely won't.

Bump for the possibility of #18 Slam and #89 title.
    Roger is due!

Slam 18 just got within reach.
100 tourneys remain elusive. Specially with 2016 already half way gone and him not having won a single one.

    Not gonna happen.

Followup question: If he manages to win Wimbledon this year, does this become his final year, going out on a high?

Think it will depend - if he wins Wimbledon, a few other titles - maybe make a US Open final - I think it would incentive to continue. If he wins Wimbledon, but then struggles through the rest of the year with injury (back) and isn't as competitive as he wants to be then I could see him saying I've won 18 - a nice round number - time to call it a career.

I think it's the last year unless he suddenly starts to win a lot

I think -and he has stated as much- that he really enjoys playing tennis, and I have not seen any signs of retiring. Unless he spends the rest of the year injured I think he's good for one more year.
Meet again we do, old foe...

If he is thinking about retiring this year and he wins Wimbledon, retire. Right there. Right then. Retire letting all of us have our final memory of him being holding the Wimbledon trophy. Do a Sampras.

I sort of agree with this (I mean, from a story arc perspective, it's perfect), but I've also felt all along that Roger is the type of guy to do a farewell tour. Can you imagine the appearance fees?
