Re: USOSP Women's Picks and Results Thread

My usual SP rule of when in doubt pick against the Canadians worked good today (and would've worked really good on men's side too.) Of course I have to make a couple of exceptions these days.

Re: USOSP Women's Picks and Results Thread

For the last SP's, a strange pattern has been happening. We have been losing more players in the men's side than on the women's, for the first few rounds. Then it evens out, and in the end nobody has been able to beat the draw in the women's while the men's have been conquered.
So far, the trend remains the same. The ATP lost 1/2 of its players, the WTA about 1/4. Uhm.......

Recently, favorites have reached the finals of and won the men's tournaments while the same hasn't been true for the women. To beat the draw, you need to have more or less "expected" finalists.

Nervous about my Pliskova pick. But at least I'll have an early result. It was based mainly upon her opponent withdrawing from both prior tournaments with a shoulder injury.

Karolina is the much better Pliskova - she only missed being seeded by a couple of spots. I was surprised by the number of people who took Krystina yesterday, who is barely in the Top 100 - I thought they might have had her confused with her sister.

I think I got them confused, too.
I went back to double check, because I was supremely confident when I made the pick, then checked and saw a match history that was mainly qualifying losses and got worried. I overlooked that there were two of them.
Here with the name correct it's much more straightforward looking.

I felt really smart making that pick. Then my heart dropped when I doubled checked the wrong one today.

Running this game, you get to learn all the same name players. I almost freaked yesterday when I realized there were two Zhengs playing (and I missed it), but fortunately, the two people who picked a Zheng both said Jie. Which was unfortunate, since SaiSai was the winning Zheng.

I know one pool we lost a lot of players one day because they picked the wrong Mayer.

Or take crazy risks with medals in sight. No one seems to be prepared to do that...

Oh, don't tell me Cibulkova is going to lose to someone outside of top 1000

I know she had a lot of bad losses lately, that's why I wanted to take her in round 1, but this.....

Do you know why CiCi Bellis is ranked so low? Might have something to do with her being just 15

    She is #2 among juniors.
