Dallas Cowboys reserve running back Joseph Randle was arrested for shoplifting from a suburban mall Monday night.

Randle was charged with a misdemeanor Class B theft of $50 to $500, according to Frisco, Texas, police. He was released on writ bond at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Frisco Police Lt. Jason Jenkins said Randle is accused of attempting to steal underwear and cologne from Dillard's in Stonebriar Centre Mall.

The arrest report states that store security officers, watching via the closed-circuit surveillance system, observed Randle purchase an item at the perfume counter before walking to the underwear section and concealing merchandise in his Dillard's bag. He then exited the store before being stopped by security in the parking lot.

The store security officers recovered from Randle a two-pack of black Polo underwear valued at $39.50 and an almost full "tester" bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne valued at $84.

After being placed in the back of a police car, Randle told Frisco police officer Jason Kimbrough that he would have just kept walking to his car when confronted by security officer Raymond Wymer -- the "old guy," Randle called him -- if he had known he would be arrested, according to the arrest report.

Randle, a fifth-round pick in 2013 who is making a base salary of $495,000 this season, has rushed for 113 yards on 16 carries this season while playing behind NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray.

Randle rushed for a season-high 52 yards on five carries in Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks.

A number of Seahawks, including the recently traded Percy Harvin (who sounds like he turned out to be poison in the locker room) think that Russell Wilson is "not black enough"? Wow.

I just hope the poison Harvin inflicted isn't permanent. I hate to see that.

It sounds like a T.O. type situation. He turned toxic with the 49ers. He turned toxic with the Eagles. He turned toxic with the Cowboys. And yet he had defenders at every stop.

Shame Harvin probably cost the Seahawks Golden Tate. Look at the season he is having in Detroit.

Michael Sam: Lack Of Talent Isn't Keeping Me Out Of The NFL

Michael Sam didn't come out and say it, but he seemed to imply that he is currently not playing in the NFL because he came out as gay.

Sam, who became the first openly gay player ever drafted into the NFL, in May 2014, is currently a free agent after spending the preseason with the St. Louis Rams, followed by a stint on the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys. When TMZ caught up with the former first-team All-American defensive lineman from the University of Missouri on Wednesday, he seemed to hint that being openly gay has kept him from making an NFL roster.

"I think I was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last year," Sam responded, when asked if it was the level of competition in the NFL or his decision to come out that was preventing him from sticking with a team. "So I don't think it had to do with talent."

Sam, who was named the 2013 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year after a standout senior season, publicly announced he is gay in February 2014 through interviews with ESPN and The New York Times. Despite winning one of the most coveted honors in college football, he waited until the 249th pick in the seventh round of the 2014 draft before being selected by the Rams. After racking up three sacks and 11 tackles during the preseason, he failed to make the Rams' 53-man active roster or the team's 10-man practice squad. After being released, he later was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad. When Dallas waived him in October, Sam stated his desire to continue pursuing his NFL dream.

"While this is disappointing, I will take the lessons I learned here in Dallas and continue to fight for an opportunity to prove that I can play every Sunday," he wrote on Twitter at the time.

As noted by Outsports in November, Sam became just the third of 73 athletes to win a Defensive Player of the Year award in the one of the five major football conferences to not be on a NFL team halfway through his rookie season.

"For now, there is no other explanation for the collective snub of Sam: NFL team front offices are not treating Michael Sam equally simply because he's openly gay," wrote Outsports co-founder Cyd Zeigler.

Michael Sam coming out of the closet (and kissing his boyfriend on a national (international?) TV broadcast) wasn't going to ingratiate him with the NFL. Surprise!

    Re: 2014 NFL Thread

The draft drop was obviously because he was gay.

But, once he was in camp, there was a problem. He apparently never played special teams. So, you had a defensive lineman who only came into the game to pass rush on certain downs and, although he tried to get involved in special teams, was way behind everyone else in that department. Do NFL teams have the room to keep someone who only contributes on certain downs as a pass rusher, and nothing else?

Dallas has a very poor defensive line. That is why we picked him up after the Rams cut him. But, then we had an injury at linebacker, and needed to bring in another linebacker to the practice squad. So, he was cut to make room. I wish he had been with us all through camp. It may have made a difference. But, coming in so late couldn't have helped.

Green Bay loses to Bufallo. If Seattle wins, they are tied and Seattle has the tiebreaker. And Seattle- Arizona basically would decide the conference because Seattle would get home field throughout the playoff (or Arizona).
    What an odd season.

The Hawks were hampered by a lot of injuries in their defensive line early in the season, but have rolled mightily into shape over the last month.
