Sources: The ex-US surgeon general Vivek Murthy delivered NBA Board of Governors call a message consistent with other credible health organizations on grim potential impact of coronavirus pandemic in U.S., but left owners with hope of re-starting season/playoffs before July.

No names yet. We also didn't get the other 3 names of the Nets. This might become the norm since players, coaches, and staff are under no obligation to reveal their names.

Sixers tested players, coaches, and specific basketball operations support staff, team says. The three positive tests came out of that grouping.

The top reply to this from the Stephen A Burner account is how I feel. Not gonna say anything. I could, but I won't.

FYI, the CBA (Chinese NBA) was set to resume their games in early April, April 2nd was the first date mentioned, then it was pushed back to April 15 and then to late April or early May, but the Chinese government just delayed the start and it's not TBA. All due to worries about asymptomatic spreading of the virus.

So anyone holding on to hope about a quick resumption or listening to Mark Cuban making flawed predictions needs to fall back and get comfortable at home. It's not happening anytime soon so stop expecting it. Enjoy the repeats airing on NBA TV in the meantime. Check out the Jordan documentary that will premiere in 3 weeks, earlier than planned.

Plenty of players are reticent about returning so soon and some were being threatened with lifetime bans if they didn't return when they told them to. Charming.

Nets' Kevin Durant leads field of 16 in NBA 2K20 tournament on ESPN

The NBA, National Basketball Players Association and 2K have partnered to produce an NBA 2K tournament that will air on ESPN and ESPN2 starting Friday, it was announced.

The NBA 2K20 Player Tournament will run through April 11, according to a statement, and will begin airing on ESPN on Friday with a half-hour preshow at 7 p.m. ET. The tournament will run on ESPN until 8:30 p.m. and then is scheduled to transition to ESPN2 until 11:30 p.m.

Sixteen NBA players will compete, including Kevin Durant, Trae Young, Hassan Whiteside, Donovan Mitchell and Devin Booker.

The winner of the event will receive $100,000 to give to a charity in support of the coronavirus relief efforts.

"We're thrilled to partner with the NBA and NBPA to bring basketball back to fans throughout the world and to help those in need during these uncertain times," said Jason Argent, 2K senior vice president, sports strategy and licensing. "Entertainment, especially sports, has the ability to bring communities together -- including athletes, fans and families -- and we hope that everyone will enjoy the tournament."

Players were seeded based on their player rating in NBA 2K20, with Durant, a 96 overall in the game, as the No. 1 seed. Players who were tied in overall rating were seeded based on tenure in the league.

Scheduled participants, with player ranking in parentheses:

    Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets (96)

    Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks (90)

Hassan Whiteside, Portland Trail Blazers (87)

    Re: The NBA Thread

For all the major leagues in North America to resume they will have to come up with a solution that does not include crossing the Canada-US border, which is likely to remain closed to non-essential travel until at least the fall. That should not be a significant factor for the NFL, NBA, or MLB as long as a facility within the US can be found to play games for the Raptors & the Blue Jays, but for the NHL it will be all most impossible to resume play because a number of their players will be stuck in Canada.

    Re: The NBA Thread

Until Trump decides that it is "essential" and makes an exception.
    A Canadian Slam winner? Inconceivable!

    Re: The NBA Thread

Just to be clear. That doesn't mean 25 days from now. It's 25 days to return to play once the all clear is given. There has to be a training period with staff to get everyone into the right playing condition and then practicing together to get their rhythm back. Think of it as a pre-season ahead of the resumption of the rest of the season, in this case, it'll be the playoffs.

But the NBA isn't resuming anytime soon, no chance that it'll be before summer, and isn't pretending it is. This is a hopeful headline that will lead to disappointment because it'll be misinterpreted.

No idea what Steve Kerr is doing in this photo. For NBA fans clueless about that era apparently. As Bomani Jones said, Toni Kukoc must be furious.

    Re: The NBA Thread

Kerr is much more visible than Kukoc. And if you are going to be angry, talk about Grant
    Face it. It's the apocalypse.
