I don't think the last few games were lucky at all. She was able to raise her level to where it should have been for the previous hour is all.

Re: AO '13 Day 8 OoP & Discussion
Sloane was playing so far back behind the baseline that she ran into Roddick. Hopefully when she isn't busy joking with her coach about Serena's "come ons", the coach will have time to explain to her that you can't win GSs in today's game with that tactic.
Also, we can only hope that Bojangles remains a scrub because that grunt does not need to be unleashed on the masses.
BTW, I love Sloane but I'm not buying her explanation. At best she was only half joking but frankly speaking, Serena's "come ons" DO come across as disrespectful.

Note that I didn't say Sloane's last few games were lucky- and I still stick with she was lucky getting out of this thing. Certainly, from when she hit that game-winning ace around the end of the match, Sloane's game certainly picked up- albeit IMO not to the very high standard of the first set. BUT- from the second half of the second set to much of the third- Foghorn Leghorn played truly excellent tennis- at least IMO because Sloane let her back in. And, IF Foghorn's serve (AND, OK, also much of the rest of her game) hadn't fallen apart, she could have taken this match out of Sloane's hands. That's always the problem with getting tentative- and certainly Venus (AND, even back in the day Serena, and, for that matter, every player in the history of the tours.....) used to make me crazy when she let players back in- giving them their confidence back. You run the risk of the other player's hot streak lasting the rest of the match. VERY fortunately, this didn't happen with Jovanovski. BUT, letting the likes of Aggie, etc., etc. back in after you've built up a lead.....well, you're gonna lose a bunch of those kinds of matches. For Sloane to be a true top player- when her "A" game is on, she's gotta keep it on for entire matches. Some players figure this out. Hope Sloane can.
