Ugh, everyone in Best Supporting Actor already has an Oscar. When's the last time that happened? I can't believe Leo isn't there. The Academy snubs the heck outta that guy.

    Re: 2013 Oscar Nominations

I was just looking to see if this thread hadn't been created yet. Thanks, moose!

I'm excited about Jennifer Lawrence getting nominated again! I hope she wins (though, I love me some Jessica Chastain too). Silver Linings Playbook got a lot more nominations than I though!

I haven't watched Les Mis, but I love Anne.

Also, woot for Adele getting nominated for best original song for Skyfall! (she wrote the lyrics with Paul Epworth, I believe)

Of everything, the direction nominations are the biggest surprises by FAR. No Affleck, no Bigelow, no Hooper (not that I think he deserves one).

    Re: 2013 Oscar Nominations

Im one of the people that really enjoyed "Beasts Of The Southern Wild", so I'm quite pleased (though admitedly very surprised) by all the love. And "Silver Linings Playbook" getting every acting category (and a lot more) makes me ecstatic.

I still am waiting to see Naomi Watts in "The Impossible", because from everything I have heard, her performance is exceptional.

Big disappointment for me is the slighting of "Moonrise Kingdom".

Has anyone seen "Amour"? Everything I recall reading has been a rave.

If I remember correctly, Best Actress features the youngest (Quvenzhané Wallis), and the oldest (Emmanuelle Riva) ever nominated in the category.

Agreed. Nine best picture nominees and no love for Moonrise Kingdom?

    True. 85 and 9!

It's an amazing feat, and I'm very glad. I really enjoyed the film. I wonder if this has happened before...? Maybe "Network".

--EDIT-- Boom. I was right with "Network" (1976). Not sure if it's happened since.

    Re Amour:
    1. They didn't take the time to find out who made Amour? (On the official site, instead of producers, etc., it says "Nominees to be determined"
    2. Emmanuel Riva makes like 10 movies in her entire life, both acclaimed ones have the word "Amour" in the title. (BTW - highly recommend Hiroshima Mon Amour)
    3. It's really weird to nominate a film for Best Picture AND Best Foreign Film

I know "Z" (and maybe another Costa Gravas film) got both, and "Life Is Beautiful" also springs to mind immediately. I'm sure there have been many others.

I'm seeing it tonight and I'm very excited. I've also decided to see Marigold Hotel again because I obviously missed something. Best friggin' picture?

    Re: 2013 Oscar Nominations

BTW, Yahoo Movies was so quick to get their article up, they made a bunch of mistakes - picture, actor, director, spelling of Benh, An hour later, they still have director wrong. It's obvious they had an article ready and too quickly edited the list.
