She'll be the lower ranked player of the two, as well.

I agree with Charlie. She has always played herself into shape at tournaments and if you can outplay what she brings to the table in a final, you've really achieved something. I don't think I've ever seen her play poorly in a slam final. She looked sluggish against Stosur at times, but Sam still wouldn't have won if she hadn't played the most accurate, aggressive possible tennis.
Plus beating her at Wimbledon is very, very tough, especially for someone without a big serve. If Aggie gets this win, I think it'll be pretty colossal.
I cannot wait, by the way. I haven't seen a Slam final between my favorite two active players since...Wimbledon 2003 (Amelie took the #2 spot from Venus soon after )

What's wrong with it is that it will piss ME off personally. I'm not speaking for anyone else - I'm speaking for myself, as a fan of Serena's. I don't care what those opponents continued on to accomplish. I personally don't like people becoming first time grand slam winners against Serena - period. If others have different sentiments - and I am not arrogant enough to think they wouldn't and am intelligent enough to think they would - then good for them. But my feelings are my feelings, and I felt like posting this one.

Serena and Venus now in a decent position for the doubles, too. I didn't have much hope when they were so far behind schedule.

Yeah I think this is Aga's best shot to beat Serena. Her serve speed has increased and is around the same as Vika's was today. Plus she has great placement. Her second serve will be the death of her though.

By the way #1 ranking will be an added bonus for Aga is she does somehow beat Serena.

Re: 2012 Wimbledon Day 10 OoP & Discussion
*FINALLY GOT TO SEE V ON CENTRE COURT TODAY!!!!! Granted, I never got the chance to see V on grass during her singles prime- BUT, in addition to the two women's Semifinals and much doubles today- I got to see V at Wimbledon for the third time. Truly, I feel blessed. Had a tear in my eye and all- it was overwhelming. :-)
The Sisters played amazing doubles today. And- at least Spears has a good serve, which is how they managed to squeak out two games. Methinks in addition to her very serious health concerns and age, that second serve has now killed off V's singles career. But, V still looks tremendous in doubles (skipping the two games where she hit two double faults- but still held- albeit, it probably helped that they were playing Spears and Kops-Jones....) Everything else was working so well for both of them (albeit, ironically Serena's serve was VERY dodgy the first few points. They actually walked off the court before they were due to start- I wonder if her shoulder is a concern at this point? Still, her serve of course woke up sufficiently in the doubles, and I'm sure she wisely didn't go full-out on the serve.) SO much hope they can take one more title. It would be so cool to have been there during a winning doubles run......
*The way Serena played these past two singles matches- especially today- for the first set and a half= no one in WTA history would have beaten her. HOWEVER, if now Aggie can somehow find a way to scrape into a third set......both matches, I could subtly see Serena's energy level flag just a bit at the second half of both second sets. NOT to say that she still wasn't playing great. If Vika could take back those two crucial errors in the second set tiebreaker, or if Petra could have returned that (admittedly BIG) serve with her one set point.....Still, it is amazing that clearly Serena has at least one more big Slam run in her. The second set of Serena/Vika had some truly stunning.
*LOL- silly me- I should have realized that Aggie is the "Older" and Better Version of Kerber. Aggie played terrific tennis- Kerber did not (at least consistently enough- Kerber especially of all things could NOT figure out Aggie's serve.) STILL- I hope Kerber can at least continue to be a factor, and even win a Slam or two. (But, NOT at the expense of Petra, who had BETTER still become a multi-Slam winner......
*Saw the ends of the Georges/Nestor and Paes/Vesnina wins. I was very impressed with how Julia and Elena ended their matches.
THAT'S gotta be it for now- we have to get up early for the plane tomorrow. WILL try to write more coherent reports at some point......

So happy for you, Nels. Thanks so much for the reports (you're making me miss live tennis, darn it), and best wishes for a smooth flight back to this side of the pond.
