Yeah they said transportation shuts down at 11pm and the curfew was an agreement the club made with the town to allow the roof and some night tennis to be played.

Congrats to Marcos and Karolina. At least now we know the answer to where Sprem has been.

Her vagina? Presumably that's how she became pregnant

Weird to see Miles Maclagan in Baghdatis's box.
Does anyone know if Murray's dad is in his life? Are he and Judy married? You never hear anything about Papa Murray.
Dani Vallverdu. They went to the same academy in Spain as youngsters.
Judy and Andy's dad divorced a long time ago. He will usually be in attendance at Wimbledon at some point during the 2nd week.
Anyway. Another boring day at Wimbledon. Thoughts....
Watching the conclusion to the Murray vs Baghdatis match, you just know that Tiriac was in his secret underground lair, stroking his magnificent white pussy, and thinking aloud "ok, so the blue clay has been outlawed. What about tennis against the clock? Rafa? How that suit you?......Rafa?...."
Was one of the more bizarre endings to a match that I have seen.
Tamira Paszek likes what Tsvetana Pironkova has and wants a taste of it. Not in the same way that Moose does though. Sorry Moose She's becoming that rare thing - a grass court specialist.
Great match between Serena and Zheng. A real epic. Zheng must take enormous credit for how she went about her task. Serena not at her best (her return was off, and during rallies she would often end up off balance) but she played pretty well in the those last 2 sets. As long as she can serve like that, you can't rule her out.
For coming back from their various ailments and performing so well here - Baker, Fish and Yaroslava should all take a bow
:unworthy: :unworthy: :unworthy:
I think Baker has a 50/50 match to reach the QFs.
Yaroslava certainly conjured up some magical Shvedy balls to achieve the 'Golden Set'. A fact all the more remarkable when considering this:
Soon after it ended the ITF issued a press release calling it that and confirming how special it was. It said Shvedova was “the second known player in the Open Era” to win such a set. (American Bill Scanlon was the first, and he did it in Delray Beach in 1983.) That makes Shvedova the first woman to do this. The press release added, “Shvedova held the previous women’s record for the most consecutive points won, winning the first 23 points of her match against American Amy Frazier in the 2nd round at Memphis in 2006, but went on to lose the match 16 60 60.”

Thought Roddick played a really superb first set and was very close to getting 2 sets up. Had he done so, I think there was a good chance that he could have closed it out in straights. Sadly, as the match wore on, his groundstrokes lost penetration and his slice lacked the bite that was there at the beginning of the match.
Ferrer gradually wore him down. Nicely described by Pete Bodo as follows
It began to get away from Roddick after the tiebreaker, and it did so slowly but with almost agonizing inevitability, as Ferrer calibrated the game he uses to wear down opponents the way water wears down stone. Soon, Roddick's aggression and energy began to decline.
To comment on an earlier discussion point, I feel the main thing preventing Ferrer from being a real contender for slams is just his height/size. With a few more inches he probably has a better serve and greater all round power.
I would still say that this has been a positive couple of weeks for Andy. If anything, today was maybe a little too soon for him as he didn't come into this tournament battled hardened like Ferrer is. The good news is that he is also seeing the positives
"You know, honestly, going into Eastbourne I was hoping I'd win a match because I hadn't won a match in so long. So you tell me I win seven straight and have a chance to move on against a guy that is five in the world and played a pretty good match—that's some progress in a short period of time."
I hope today's sign off proves to be just an insurance policy and that we will see him back at Wimbledon next year.
Also from the Bodo blog, there were some nice comments about Roddick from Fish and Querrey...
Fish
"I think he'll go down as one of the best grass-court players to ever play. Certainly could be one of the best grass-court players to never win Wimbledon, you know, and three finals all to Federer. You know, that's unfortunate. There is a lot of guys who have won Grand Slams that haven't had to play Roger Federer in the final to win."
He went on to elaborate, "He was the alpha male in our generation, certainly the biggest name by a good distance. He handled the burden of the press and the pressure and the expectation for 10 years, and there were some guys to come and go as he stayed there. Unbelievably consistent. Doesn't get enough credit for it. He finished the year, finished in the Top 10 in the world eight straight years. Pretty amazing."
Querrey
"He's probably the greatest kind of influence on me growing up. He was the guy that I know. He's been our highest‑ranked American basically for 10 years. He was the guy when I was first a Davis Cup practice partner. He was on the team when I was 17, 18. He would let me come to Austin where he lived, five, six, seven times, to practice with him.
So for me, he was, you know, he's been monumental in my kind of upbringing and watching him. You know, he's so generous with letting me come to his house. I know he's done that with tons of other guys, too. So, I mean, he's been great to me. I mean, I think all the guys would say he's been a great leader for U.S. tennis, and just an awesome guy."

These are probably a better reflection of the man than anything you might infer from how he goes about things on court or in press conferences.

He's not the only one, Edmond. I loved my shout out. And one of these days, I promise to post the photo I took of Big Sexy in a yoga pose that stopped traffic surrounding the practice courts at Indian Wells.
