    Re: Men's Picks & Results

And we commence with our first breakdown of the fortnight:

    Bandwagon king,
Mahut 84: even though he should win and we expect him to lose against Isner (I'm still not convinced he'll lose that match), I always am wary of picking such a low ranked player.

Andreev 49: OK, I get Mahut, but Andreev!? The same sentiment as above applies aggravated by the fact that he's done zilch. Much too risky for my taste.

Youzhny 42: well done lads. He should be good for another round before he enters the danger zone.

Verdasco 38: yes, we know his grass bonafides aren't staggering, but you think he should win against Wang. Good for another round, then faces Simon.

Almagro 7: risky pick against O. Rochus who can play on the green stuff. IF he gets through he might have another round in him. Might.

Becker 5: typical case of choosing against his foe, and after seeing it's Blake, you can sort of rest assured.

Benneteau 3: Muller is dangerous. I would've saved him for R-2. Then bye bye by Federer.

    Blake 2: he's still playing?!

    Berdych 1: WAY TOO SOON

Bolelli 3: yes, he plays someone I've never heard of. Yes, he then plays Berdych. Still, this would make me very nervous.

Chardy 19: calculated risk. Don't expect Volandri to pull off the upset. Well done.

Chela 1: one slam too late.

Darcis 4: sure, he'll probably lose next round, what I'm not so sure of is that he'll even get there.

    F. Mayer 6: disturbingly quiet player this year up against flashy opponent. You'd better have your coat ready for the Loser's Lounge just in case.

Fognini 2: some people take the Suicide part too literally.

Gasquet 21: sleep on and meditate on your day 2 pick.

Harrison 25: he just beat his opponent in the Wimbledone tuneup. YET, Lu likes the surface and has dealt bigger upsets. Slight advantage Harrison.

Isner 10: it's all a matter of what Isner we get: Early 2012 Isner and you've picked him too soon. April-June Isner and Mahut gets revenge and you've picked him in timely fashion.

Janowicz 2: some people felt like beginning Monday with adrenaline.

Llodra 8: I like his chances.

Lu 1: risky? Yes. Impossible? No.

Malisse 9: his opponent Matosevic just beat Gasquet on grass. I would've stayed clear of this one.

Monaco 8: OK, so he might not have won here yet, but what better chance to do it than against another Argentine?

Petzschner 26: I like this pick. Looks good and would be too risky in R-2.

Russell 2: only because he plays a Spaniard.

Seppi 9: not known for his off-clay results; his play this year mitigates the choice. Still... Istomin would've deterred me.

Simon 1: a bit early, no?

Starace 1: madness! Madness I say!

Stepanek 9: nice two rounds for him. Thing is, he tends to underperform at slams. Watch him lose a match he ought not to.

Sweeting 5: only because he plays a clay loving Italian.

Zemlja 5: I bet his name yields a bunch of points in Scrabble. Here? I'm not so sure.

Invalid picks 2: didn't specify which Mayer they chose.
    Go time.

Am a bit confused. The matches listed for the men here said Andreev would be playing Golding. Which may explain the picks. But he's actually playing Bernard Tomic. Is this an error on the part of the SP organisers, because I doubt so many of us would have picked against Tomic.

The draw and the live scoreboard both have him playing Golding, Pudding. Am I missing something?

I am watching the match live on ESPN3 and Andreev is indeed playing Golding, not Tomic.
