It's so different because David drew blood. I can't compare them.

I agree. But people who bring up and defend Serena in this case have to realize that a personal attack on someone's integrity (with no evidence at all) is a serious offense, even if it did not draw blood.

By the way, the ticker says Nalbandian was fined an extra 12+ thousand dollars, the maximum fine allowed for that tournament.

He's also being investigated for assault by the police, but they don't know who put in the complaint.

although both are unacceptable in our 'gentlemens sport' i would rather be called a name than be physically cut open. i think serena got off lightly tbh and should have served some kind of ban, but nalbandian should be barred for life.

Barred for life? Because he accidentally caused a scab? That's... harsh.

the board was so close to the umpire that it was almost impossible NOT to injure him imo. we dont get many televised home tournaments in the uk so its bad news when the one we do get other than wimbledon ends in an act of (intentional or not) violence. mind you some people are blaming the advertisers/sponsors for having so many boards in the first place!!

There's a big distinction to be made in terms of intent to cause harm, though. I would agree with a ban decision for anybody who sets out to cause harm... but I really can't think it's the case here. It's clearly a dumb act that did cause (minor) incidental harm, so some action is warranted, but treating it like a deliberate attack on an offical is really way over the top. I think it was handled a bit harshly, but still justly.

I think that if the Dimitrov incident had happened at a larger tournament and there had been television coverage everyone would be singing a different tune. What he did was worse than what Nalbandian did. He actually ran after and physically assaulted an official after the match was over.

In the WTA there is also the Wickmayer incident where she threw a racquet and hit a lineswoman sending her to the hospital. Again there was no television coverage and some say it was an accident on Wickmayer's part.

According to the Telegraph, it's the linesman who issued the complaint against David Nalbandian

Random thought, but did anyone else think the linesman looks a little like Larry David? I thought both his appearance and reaction afterwards reminded me of him and I could see something like this being turned into an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm someday.

Ha, I immediately thought of Jeffrey Tambor. I could see him doing the Arrested Development chicken dance.
