2012 French Open YCWJ: Scoreboard and Lounge

Good luck to all. Scoreboards will be posted after each round finishes, and there will be a pick tracker up starting after the first round as well. If you have any questions, please ask them in this thread, not here.

Oh, Mathilde. You were so many match points close to proving me right.

But I do like you better than "l'australienne" (i.e., how the RG radio commentators kept referring to Rodionova), so it's okay. Plus it was pretty cool hearing all the "Ma-THILDE! *clap-clap-clap*"s in the background.

Re: 2012 French Open YCWJ: Scoreboard and Lounge

I don't know that anyone's ever looked at this before, but after I made my YCWJ picks, I scanned through the previous team posts, and it struck me that there were an awful lot of different players picked as the wooden spoon. So I went and counted up the number of selections received by different ATP players. The French wild card recipients were seriously singled out.

    Dasnieres de Veigy - 17
    Prodon - 13
    Hanescu - 12
    Volandri - 9
    Mannarino - 9
    Tursunov - 6
    Jaziri - 6
    Giraldo - 5
    Young - 5
    Zeballos - 4
    Haider-Maurer - 4
    Malisse - 3
    Clement - 3
    Beck - 3

    9 with 2 picks
    11 with 1 pick

That's 34 different players chosen, among the 33 teams.

I'll try to get around to doing a count on the WTA side.

I think if you went back and checked, it'd be about the same amount of players picked for most tournaments: around a fourth.

If anyone has it hasn't been posted...glad you did! Thanks, interesting to see the numbers.

I feel "smarter" that I had no unique picks...I think?

I'd rather have unique picks. It often happens that you get one player who wasn't picked by anyone making it deep into the tournament or even winning it.

Jaziri! I am avenged for that horrible Petzschner-Benneteau set I watched in Memphis.

I picked my FOUR women wrong. They all won. Crap.

Scores through the end of the 1st Round

Low scores abound after the first round. Only one contestant lost less than two picks, ktothem1. It's not ktothem that's in the lead though, that honor belongs to past winner Martini4me, who has 18 points. Behind him are ktothem and TennisBen21 with 17.

It should be an interesting contest, especially with the pre-tournament women's favorite already out. Everyone should still be in the running at this point.

    Good Luck All.

Wow. First time I've been singled out for something positive. Best of luck to everyone.

The more I play this game, the more I suck. It really amazes me.

The pick tracker has been updated, but I'll wait on the Granollers-Jaziri match to post the scoreboard.

Scores through the end of the 2nd Round

After the second round, Martini4me is still in the lead, this time by 3 points with 30. Next are ktothem1 and patrick, both with 27.

Many players are within 6 points of the lead though, so they should all still have a shot at winning. With all the upsets we've had, especially on the women's side, things should be getting even more interesting soon.

    Good Luck All.
