    Re: The Hurricane Irene Thread

I'm assuming it's going to just rain real hard as usual, and there is too much hype, but my (non-elderly) parents are in the evacuation zone and are waiting to see what Bloomberg says and might evacuate to my apartment in CT

Of course, I'm more concerned about the New Haven final

Yeah, who cares about delays and flooding and cancellations - will this effect the start of the US Open - haven't heard yet whether they are cancelling anything yet - Arthur Ashe Kids Day scheduled for tomorrow morning - will the tournament go ahead on Monday if power is out to much of NYC.

Yeah, my parents are definitely going to be here, in my small apartment with no privacy , for two days while I try to work, do tennis stuff, and pack all of my stuff for my move.

Maybe I should just go into the eye of the storm for a more pleasant weekend...

There are no "D" batteries to be found in any store in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Yikers! It's good to see people inland preparing.

It is. If I lived inland, I probably wouldn't do anything. I'm bad about that. I'm the type who stands outside to watch a tornado.

I don't know that it is preparing as much as it is responding to my 83 year old father's emergency preparation/scavenger hunt list. He's been calling me since last night, saying he needs this, then this, then this. I had to explain at one point that running low on Iced Oatmeal cookies doesn't warrant a separate phone call at 11:30 p.m.

The hardest part is going to be that I'll likely end up spending the night at his house if things get bad, and his basement floods like I expect it to. He can't hear, and refuses to wear his hearing aids, so the TV volume is usually maxed out. And he decided in his 80s that Jerry Springer and "Everyone Loves Raymond" reruns make for a fantastically entertaining night

NYC's MTA will begin a system wide shutdown starting at noon tomorrow (Saturday). Not to be outdone, Philly will shut down our SEPTA system beginning at 12:30 a.m.

I don't know Moose. Going days without Iced Oatmeal cookies could be a shock to anyone's system.
