Man saws off own foot to continue receiving unemployment benefits
It sounds like the plot of a boring "Saw" film, but it's apparently all-too-real.
An unemployed Austrian man cut off his own foot with a mitre saw so he could continue receiving jobless benefits.
Hans Url, a 56-year-old from Mitterlabill, then took the foot and cooked it in the oven so doctors could not reattach it.
"The planning was meticulous," Franz Fasching, a police spokesman, told the Daily Mail. "[Url] waited until his wife and his adult son had left the house and he was alone. He then switched it on and sliced off his left foot above the ankle--throwing it in the fire so it would not be possible to reattach it before he called emergency services."
He "then made his way to the garage where he called emergency services and waited for them to arrive."
Url was airlifted to a hospital in Graz, where he was put in an artificial coma so doctors could stabilize him.
"The foot was too badly burned to reattach," a hospital spokesman said. "All we could do was seal the wound. He had lost a lot of blood--he almost died on the way to hospital."
According to the Austrian Times, Url had complained before the incident that he was too sick to work and "didn't like the work he was offered."
The kicker: according to the paper, being footless does not necessarily qualify Url for unemployment compensation.
"He will be assessed once he is out of hospital and we will see what work we can find for him," Hermann Gössinger, a spokesman for the employment benefits office, said.

Cops: Man Ran Off With Officer's Cap
A Lincoln Park man is accused of stealing a police officer's hat off his head and fleeing down South Street before being tackled to the ground by the hat-less cop's partner, according to the Morristown Police report.
According to the police report, officers Jesse Dickerson and Roberto Rosado were on foot patrol in the area of Sona Thirteen at about 2 a.m. when a person, later identified as Timothy Blewitt, 20, grabbed Rosado's police cap off his head and ran down South Street toward Market Street on May 20.
Dickerson ran after Blewitt, identifying himself as an officer and telling him to stop running but Blewitt continued, turning down Market Street and into the 40 Park alleyway, according to the report. Finally, near the rear entrance to Sona Thirteen, Dickerson was able to tackle Blewitt to the ground, according to the report.
Dickerson tried to get Blewitt to put his hands behind his back to be handcuffed but Blewitt refused, eventually being cuffed when Rosado arrived to assist, according to the report. Blewitt suffered some head abrasions during the incident but refused medical treatment, according to the report.
Blewitt was charged with theft, obstruction and resisting arrest. He was advised of his court date and released pending his appearance.

B.C. studio’s ‘Little Spinners’ class giving grade schoolers a taste of pole dancing
VANCOUVER — Most parents want to keep their daughters off the pole.
But a dance and fitness studio in Duncan, B.C., is planning to train girls in aerobic pole-dancing basics before they hit puberty.
The Twisted Grip Dance and Fitness Studio is offering weekend pole aerobics classes this fall aimed at children called “Little Spinners.” The sessions will run Saturdays for an hour at $70.
Studio owner and instructor Kristy Craig says she is simply catering to her adult clients’ demands.
“My existing students were asking about it for their children. They were saying, ‘My daughter plays on my pole at home all the time, I’d love her to actually learn how to do things property and not hurt herself,’ ” said Ms. Craig, who is a certified fitness and aerobics instructor.
They have no association with it or think there is anything wrong or bad about it. That’s an adult putting that on them
.Children as young as five, mostly girls but there is one boy, are enrolled in the class.
Ms. Craig, who first took a pole dance class four years ago and never worked on the pole as an adult entertainer, said she will keep the focus strictly on athletics. “I treat it just like gymnastic classes…. I don’t teach any of the adult moves,” she said.
Ms. Craig said as pole dancing evolves as a sport, it’s being stripped of its gentleman club roots.
“For competitions they actually have rules and regulations that there can be nothing sexual, or any article of clothing removed, and in some you aren’t allowed to wear high heels. The sexuality is being taken out of it. It’s highlighting the gymnastic, athletic and circus acrobatics aspect.”
The instructor says her response to critics of the classes is: “Do you see anything provocative going on here? Because there isn’t. This is strictly about fitness.”

.Twisted Grip is not the first studio in B.C. to offer pole dancing for gradeschoolers.
In 2010, Vancouver’s Tantra Fitness made news for similarly allowing underage girls (in group classes as young as nine and private classes as young as five) to join with parental permission.
Tantra owner Tammy Morris, a former exotic dancer, stressed at the time that the classes are not sexualized — girls do not learn to strip or grind.
“The kids just love it,” said Ms. Morris, president of the Canadian Pole Fitness Association. “They have no association with it or think there is anything wrong or bad about it. That’s an adult putting that on them.”
She said the association does not have an official stance on age minimums for pole dance lessons.
The association is holding its championships at the Edgewater Casino in Vancouver in October. Competitors for that event must be of legal age, because of the venue.
“As the public becomes more educated and as more competitions are happening, it will start to be seen more as a sport,” she said, rather than being associated with stripping.

Re: News of the Nutty!
A German company called G-Spirits is selling a line of liquor it says has been poured over the naked breasts of a certified model.
The owners, Max and Julian Goldblach, are former bartenders who say in their mission statement, "For us there is nothing more than the eroticism of a beautiful woman. To create the perfect taste we let every single drop of our spirits run over the breasts of a special type of woman, a type we recognize in this liquor."
Each bottle of its whiskey, vodka, or rum comes with a certificate of authenticity claiming that the liquor has indeed touched a model's exposed chest, along with the original signature of the model and a bottle number, according to the company's website.
Whiskey was poured over Hungarian Playmate of the Year 2012 Alexa Vargas, rum over model Amina (which the company claims on its website gives it a "unique erotic character"), and vodka over the chest of model Evelin.
The liquor is selling for $180 plus shipping. G-Spirits says only 5,000 of these "specialty" bottles will be sold.
