Re: Election 2012
CNN did a little poll where 54% of respondents indicated they are unsure if they view Paul Ryan as favorable or unfavorable. The fact that 54% are unsure of their opinion of Paul Ryan constitutes an major, MAJOR part of the problem.

I found it interesting how Romney, in his speech introducing Ryan this morning, emphasized Ryan's Catholicism. Catholics supported Obama 54-45 in 2008, according to Pew, and they tend to be the white middle class voters that are essential to Romney's gameplay.
Ryan's speech this morning was exceptional, I thought. I'd never support a ticket that he is on, but I applaud his ongoing efforts to see that budget shortfalls and historic deficits are discussed. At some point, we need to stop kicking the can down the road.

Bush II inherited a surplus. It was frittered away. I don't think we should forget 2000 - 2008 and act as if the deficits and recession were created by the current administration. We should also not forget that the Congress has blocked everything the President has tried to do.

Re: Election 2012
I didn't hear that Romney was due to choose this morning, so when I woke up and turned the TV on to see if NBC is deeming to show any Olympics live, he was giving a speech and the title said (R) Paul Ryan, Vice-Presidential Candidate. And I had no interest for some reason and decided to watch a DVR'd Project Runway instead. I have no energy for this election for some reason.

On a superficial level, it wins him women.
I think Paul Ryan might attrack the female version of a Palin supporter. He is going to be pushed as "down-home, honest, idealistic" and he's good looking. I think he's kind of geared to pull away somewhat conservative women who, despite themselves, like Michele Obama and her arms and her vegetable garden.
And besides the budget, which the Romney base leans toward already, there's nothing else he's really known for other than being in the Tea Party. Which means they can make him to be whatever they want.

Just found out about this site, ontheissues.org. Plug in a state and choose a politician to see his/her voting record.
This is Paul Ryan's page. http://ontheissues.org/House/Paul_Ryan.htm

You mean like the huge defense spending cuts that were part of the congressional deal last year that Ryan and many others are trying to undo?

Pfft. These days a Republican and a Republican on the ticket isn't good for this nation's women and gay folks.

Frankly, I think a Republican + Republican is not good for anyone other than 0.4% of the richest folks of this country.

Obama and the Dems had a near-historic sized majority in both houses of Congress for his first two years though, Ti, and got most of what he wanted passed those two years.
I look around, and sadly, I don't see a whole lot of results from those two years, outside of a massive deficit that no one seems devoted to lowering.

Re: Election 2012
Well, it took the previous administration 8 years to take us to the brink of financial collapse. To expect the President and Democrats to reverse that in only two years is asking quite a bit. Many economists will tell you that the President's accomplishents before Republicans began their obstructionist agenda in 2010 kept this country from a depression that could have rivaled the great depression. Ask the auto industry how it feels about the President's first 2 years.
We've gone from losing 800,000 jobs a month to 25 straight months of private sector job creation.
I look around and wonder how much better off we'd be if Republicans main goal was to work on solutions rather than make Obama a one-term president.

I'll drink to that.
