Mine too. She was a real story teller, lovely to listen to when she was being interviewed.

Maeve Binchy followed by Gore Vidal. May they rest in peace.

The feud with Buckley was epic - but just as good, I thought, was the feud with Norman Mailer - and Vidal's quote after being knocked to the floor by a punch thrown by Mailer, after Vidal had writing a particularly scathing critique of one of Mailer's works...

Surprised that Marvin Hamlisch hadn't already made this thread. I had the great experience of seeing him at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio back in my college days. My parents had tickets and suggested I try to get a ticket through Will Call (turned in tickets) and I landed a seat in the second row on the side of the stage where the keyboard was and got to watch his hands fly over the keys (I'm sure dry can appreciate).

My favorite version of my favorite song of his. And I say that out of love, not cynicism. This is incredibly special. I hope they got to meet in Heaven.

David Rakoff has died, after a long battle with cancer. I never thought his essays were all that funny in print form, but liked the work he did on This American Life.

I've never read his work, but I had heard a 2010 interview he had given on NPR. They were re-airing it today, and I found it very sad. He was talking about how he felt like 47 was his perfect age because he often felt in life that he had been born with the personality of someone aged 47-52. He died yesterday at 47.
Nobody will recognize me as an international assassin in this clever disguise.
