"It's only by the grace of God that he survived this. Amazing," he said.

yes, amazing that God took several days to get help there to find him. Amazing that he could not, for example, think this would be a good time to cure his quadriplegic condition.
But as M8 says, his mother left him a bible. That certainly made everything swell.
Ah, rats, I am NOT in the religious thread. My mistake.

Would like to nominate this mother for worst mother of the year.

Mother dangled toddler over cheetah pit at Cleveland zoo – and he fell in
    Associated Press

Zoo officials in Cleveland say a woman was dangling her two-year-old son over a railing when he fell about 10ft (three metres) into a cheetah exhibit.

Cleveland Metroparks zoo says the toddler’s parents jumped in and pulled him to safety Saturday afternoon.

The zoo’s executive director says the cheetahs didn’t go toward the boy or his parents and that several eyewitnesses saw the woman holding the child over the railing.

Zoo officials say the boy hurt his leg in the fall. Cleveland fire department spokesman Larry Gray says the toddler was treated for bumps and bruises at a hospital.

The zoo says Cleveland Metroparks plans to seek child endangering charges against the mother.

In 2012, a similar incident at a Pittsburgh zoo left a two-year-old boy dead. The child was fatally mauled after falling into a wild African dogs exhibit.

The boy had lunged from his mother’s grasp. He fell about 10ft (three metres) from the top of a wooden railing into the enclosed exhibit below.

The boy’s parents sued the zoo, saying it had been warned about other parents who routinely lifted children on to the railing. The zoo countersued, arguing the boy’s mother was to blame for his death, because she lifted him atop the railing so he could get a better look into the exhibit.

The legal dispute was settled last year.

There is no accounting for stupid is there? At least there was no malicious intent but one family lost their child and another could have all because no one stopped to think about how squirmy toddlers are.

Pennsylvania mother injected teenagers with heroin in Chester Co., DA says

    WEST CHESTER, Pa. --
A mother in Chester County, Pennsylvania, is behind bars, charged with injecting two teenagers, including her own 14-year-old daughter, with heroin.

Jessica Lynn Riffey, 34, of Telegraph Road in Honey Brook, is charged with endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, drug delivery and related offenses.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said West Caln Township police were called to Riffey's home last Thursday to check on Riffey's 14-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old boy.

The teens told police that Riffey supplied them with heroin and had injected them with the drug on several occasions at her home in September.

"The victims described the defendant tying a string around their upper arms to extrude their veins, then using a hypodermic needle to inject the heroin into their veins," prosecutors said in a statement. "The victims also (allegedly) snorted heroin supplied to them by the defendant's boyfriend."

Riffey was arrested and charged. She is behind bars in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Prosecutors said Riffey's boyfriend, Jameson Burn, has been charged in a separate complaint with drug dealing and other offenses.

That is not being a bad parent. They are teaching him a craft from early on. And for us here in Latin America, the sooner they start him on the right path the better. A nice laptop and he is off to cyber crime before puberty. There is money there, you know?

    How about world's worst grandparents?

An Arizona grandfather left his 5-year-old granddaughter alone in the desert with a loaded gun after his car broken down, while he went to get some drinks and food. Told her to "shoot any bad guys."

Rod Covlin attempted to marry off his 13-year-old daughter after murdering his wife: prosecutors
    BY Shayna Jacobs
    NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
    Updated: Monday, November 9, 2015, 8:15 PM

The unemployed backgammon whiz charged with the 2009 murder of his estranged wife was caught on tape discussing arranging a marriage between his 13-year-old daughter and a man in Mexico, prosecutors said Monday.

Prosecutors said at a bail hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court that Rod Covlin hatched the bizarre plot in 2013 in a bizarre bid to collect on the $1 million trust fund his late wife had left her.

“The defendant comes up with a plan to kidnap his 13-year-old daughter, take her to Mexico, and pay some Mexican $10,000 to marry her so that she’ll no longer be a minor,” prosecutor Matthew Bogdanos said.

His plan was to “get custody, get access to all of the money.”

“Some Mexican law firm can handle it, make sure it gets done properly,” Covlin is heard saying to an unidentified confidante on the tape, snippets of which were played in court. Justice Bonnie Wittner looked stunned as she heard what Covlin had described.

His lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, told Wittner that it was the chatter of a “desperate” man who’d lost custody of his kids and knew his daughter was suicidal over her situation. He said the children wanted to live with him after their mother’s passing but were stuck with his parents in Westchester.

“He did something that looking back even Mr. Covlin would say obviously he shouldn’t have done, but it was not, again, money … it was to protect his children,” he argued.

Bogdanos cited that incident and other allegations of supremely creepy behavior both before and after his wife’s murder as reasons Wittner should keep him locked up without bail.

He said Covlin had “falsely” reported his wife, Shele Danishefsky, for sexually abusing their 3-year-old son, prompting an official investigation.

He also snuck into her apartment in May 2009 without her permission to take her computer and camera. He then snapped photos from inside the home, “as if to show her he had access to the apartment and she wasn’t safe,” the prosecutor said.

Around that time he called her work supervisor to bogusly claimed she was a drug addict, the assistant Manhattan district attorney said.

And in the years since his wife’s death, the disturbed longtime suspect trolled for underage girls through a game called “Castle Age” he played on Facebook, the assistant district attorney reported.

Bogdanos said Covlin, beginning in 2012, was in the habit of “poking” visibly very young females and was called out for being a “pervert.”

    (...)

Bogdanos said the hostility in the couple’s relationship during their divorce proceeding was “exacerbated” by the fact that the wife “was the breadwinner.”

“The defendant himself was unemployed and essentially being supported by both his parents and his estranged wife as he pursued his backgammon career,” the prosecutor said, adding Covlin’s “martial arts background” made him “ideally suited him for this murder.”

"Based on the evidence, your honor, it's the people's position the only person who had the unparalleled motive, the unfettered opportunity and undeniable means to the exclusion of everyone else is the defendant."

Wittner ordered Covlin remain held without bail — and also granted a prosecution request that he be barred from making any personal phone calls or receiving any visits while he’s incarcerated.

The DA made an argument that there had been witness tampering efforts on Covlin’s behalf and said they feared he would try again.

Gottlieb said in the hallway that the issues Bodganos raised have “nothing to do with the murder allegations.”

I'm surprised this thread has not returned to the top for those horrible parents in California who chained up the their 13 kids, starved them, and only let them shower once a year.

One has to assume that they were in such a sad state that the adults -some of the kids were over 18- couldn't revolt.

Neighbors who saw them thought the ones in their 20s were no older than their early teens, that's how malnourished they were. Those super creepy family photos they've been showing were taken recently, yet none of those children look anywhere near their 20s (oldest is 29 I think), let alone their late teens.

States have got to start mandating monthly or at least once-a-semester check-ins on these home-schooled kids. The amount of crap that can occur when no one gets eyes on a child are downright frightening. This case is extreme, but there are so many cases of neglect with home-schooled kids it's quite scary.
