Interesting article about the current situation in the global oil market: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/n...-strategy.html

I'm not sure if it tells the whole truth, but it's in the right direction I think.

    Saudi King Abdullah has died
Elisabeth Butler Cordova | Karma Allen

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has died, state television reported early on Friday and his brother Salman became king, it said in a statement attributed to Salman.

King Salman has called on the family's Allegiance Council to pay allegiance to Muqrin as his crown prince and heir.

U.S. crude prices rose about 1.5 percent immediately after the news broke.

The succession to Salman was largely expected to be smooth. The Saudi royal family announced in March that 79-year-old Salman would succeed the king. Weeks ago, when King Abdullah was reported to be seriously ill, Saudi watchers told CNBC that the country's oil, domestic and geopolitical policies should remain virtually unchanged when Salman takes over.

Salman, who has assumed many state duties while also serving as deputy prime minister and minister of defense, was relatively well-liked by regional neighbors and in Washington, according to Karen Elliott House, author of "On Saudi Arabia: Its People, Past, Religion, Fault Lines—and Future."

Argentina's Government Says It Suspects Rogue Agents In Prosecutor Alberto Nisman's Death

Argentina suspects rogue agents from its own intelligence services were behind the death of a state prosecutor investigating the deadly 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.

Alberto Nisman was found dead in his apartment late on Sunday, a gunshot wound to his head and a 22 caliber pistol by his side along with a single shell casing.

He had been scheduled to appear before Congress on Monday to answer questions about his allegation that President Cristina Fernandez conspired to derail his investigation of the attack.... continues
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/0...n_6532882.html

Popular sentiment here is that Kirchner herself had a hand in his death. He was set to speak before Congress on Monday detailing how she and her govt seeked to absolve Iran for some murky benefit. He was found dead ("suicide" she said early on) Sunday.

In fact, Kirchner herself pushed through Congress a treaty that basically gave Iran a free pass in 2013/14. Iran was supposed to do the same but they never did and it became an embarrassment for her govt.

As always, now she says that she is the victim, and that all this is a plot to overthrow her.

Mexico City gas tank truck explodes outside maternity hospital, killing 3
37 people transported to other hospitals, more likely buried in the rubble: city official
The Associated Press Posted: Jan 29, 2015 9:38 AM ET Last Updated: Jan 29, 2015 10:54 AM ET

A powererful gas tank truck explosion shattered a maternity and children's hospital in Mexico City on Thursday, killing at least three people and injuring dozens.
Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera told Milenio television that three were killed, a woman and two men.
He earlier told the Televisa network that at least 54 people were injured, 22 of them children. Most of the injuries were relatively minor, he said, many caused by flying glass.
Fausto Lugo, the city's civil defence director, said 37 people were transported to other hospitals and he said other people were likely still buried in the rubble.
The explosion sent a column of smoke billowing over the area on the western edge of Mexico's capital and television images showed much of the hospital collapsed, with firefighters trying to extinguish fires. Mancera said the heaviest damage was near the hospital's loading dock.
Mancera said the blast apparently was caused by a leak in the hose carrying gas from the truck to the hospital, which is operated by the city.
"There was a super explosion and everything caught on fire," said Ismael Garcia, 27, who lives a block from the hospital.
Garcia ran toward the hospital where the truck had exploded and was told it had been connecting to the kitchen when the explosion occurred.
Garcia and others entered the hospital and made their way to the nursery. "Fortunately, we were able to get eight babies out," he said.
Borough chief Adrian Rubalcava said the injured were being taken to a nearby hospital, but the area had insufficient ambulances.
According to a government website, the hospital was founded in 1993 and counted 35 beds. It is located in a densely populated lower middle class neighbourhood next to a school.

Saudi Arabia Wants To Host A Segregated Olympic Games

The IOC shot down a suggestion by a Saudi Arabian official Tuesday that the ultraconservative nation could seek to co-host the Olympics with neighboring Bahrain by having male and female athletes compete in separate countries.

Prince Fahad bin Jalawi Al Saud, an international relations consultant to the president of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, told a French Olympic website that resolutions passed by the IOC last month open the door for a possible joint bid with men's events on Saudi territory and women's competitions in Bahrain.

But IOC President Thomas Bach quickly dismissed the idea in a statement to The Associated Press, saying Saudi Arabia would be ineligible to bid for the Olympics unless it complies with rules barring discrimination against women in sports.

"A commitment to 'non-discrimination' will be mandatory for all countries hoping to bid for the Olympics in the future," Bach said. "This was made very clear in the Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms and will even be in the host city contract.

"If this is not applied, the bid would not be admissible. Countries like Saudi Arabia must really work to allow female athletes to 'freely participate.'"

Saudi women are largely unable to access sports, including in public schools where physical education is not on the curriculum for girls. The Gulf country sent two women to the Olympics for the first time at the 2012 London Games. However, the Saudis sent a male-only team to last year's Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Fahad said in an interview with the Francs Jeux website published Monday that a Saudi-Bahrain joint candidacy would be allowed under the Olympic Agenda 2020 reform package approved by the IOC in Monaco.

The changes opened the door to holding events outside a host city or country, as well as possible joint bids by cities, neighboring countries or regions, but only in "exceptional cases."

Yeah, I don't think they have really thought through the realities of doing this.
