Not putting this in In Memoriam because I'm not sure how many people would actually want to memorialize him, but former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has died at age 91.

Yikes! Well that's one way to curb the "Canadians are so nice and friendly" narrative.

Don't blame it on Canadians. Blame it on oil companies. I still meet a lot of people that say Climate Change is simply a natural process of the planet, and it is not human-related.
    That's how arrogant we are.

At a debate in Rio yesterday, Germany's Ambassadopr said that if Brazil did not reduce deforestation, Germany would not ratify the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. Last yr I wrote a piece on why ratification hinges on Germany, the deal's biggest beneficiary

@Drop and @ponchi, have you heard if the people who elected him are still happy with their choice?

Not really. I might ask around when I go to Brazil in a month or so.

There are a healthy number who are absolutely not happy with him anymore, see popularity polls and midterm election results and swing percentages in different districts. That's why I'm asking. He has a very strong base, but the people who were more moderate and were like he's not the best but whatever realized that "whatever" was far more dangerous than they imagined. It's hard to tell how people are feeling in Brazil. I haven't seen much written about him, much more about the situation.
