First that college basketball thingie, now Masters golf. Two of the biggest wastes of breath for sports radio etc.
The good news is that the baseball season kicks into gear today.

Opening part of the season is going to be tough for our Phils. Howard and Utley on the DL. Everyone is hoping for Hunter Pence to step up big, and counting on the pitching rotation to be tough until we get everyone healthy.
I have a 6 game package, will get to see all the teams in our division (starting with the Mets next weekend), along with the Cards and Pirates this season. The Philly home field (Citizens Bank Park) is a fantastic place to watch a game.

I think the Phillies' window will be closing soon. Their starting pitching is still formidable, but their line-up is aging. Utley has a chronic injury that he'll never really overcome, Howard is just ridiculously overpaid (that contract will be a real albatross in a few years) and their farm system is weak (especially for hitters). Miami and Washington are both on the upswing.

Louis Oosthuizen just shot a double-eagle on the 2nd hole (5 par) at The Masters. It was freaking amazing. I've never seen a double-eagle before.

And think they said it was the first televised Albatross at Masters ever as well.
That second playoff hole was fun!

It really was. I don't usually enjoy a major that much if one of my favorites isn't in the hunt. But yesterday both Watson and Oosthuizen became favorites.

CBS News had a feature on a new sport called Chessboxing, so I googled it.
Chessboxing
The basic idea in chessboxing is to combine the #1 thinking sport and the #1 fighting sport into a hybrid that demands the most of its competitors – both mentally and physically.
In a chessboxing fight two opponents play alternating rounds of chess and boxing. The contest starts with a round of chess, followed by a boxing round, followed by another round of chess and so on.
A contest consists of 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer.
A round of boxing takes 3 minutes. Between the rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The contest is decided by: checkmate (chess round), exceeding the time limit (chess round), retirement of an opponent (chess or boxing round), KO (boxing round), or referee decision (boxing round). If the chess game ends in a stalement, the opponent with the higher score in boxing wins. If there is an equal score, the opponent with the black pieces wins.

As if chessboxing isn't bad enough, I first read it as cheeseboxing.
I'm thinking figure skating and archery.

Re: Other Sports Random, Random
Rick Riley had a chapter about it in "Sports from Hell"...where he chronicled some of the world's dumbest sports. I think it may have even "won". Good, funny read from Rick like usual.
Seems like the strong boxers dominate if they are able to stall enough in the chess games.
