I agree with you that Barty is in the driver's seat. Maybe give her 40%, and 20% each to the rest.

For the ATP, a slam champ who's within the top 20 DOES get automatic entry, but only one. This has happened in men's doubles a few times in the last decade.

For the WTA, only the top 7 are guaranteed. The #8 spot could technically be a wildcard spot, but I don't know of a case where that's ever happened.

If I recall, Safin made the ATP finals due to him winning AO.

Hard to tell because he didn't play the tournament, but also several other top players - Roddick & Hewitt - didn't play either so he would have made it as an alternate.

His ATP bio (by the year) says he withdrew from the USO and Tennis Masters Tournament due to a knee injury. The only tournament he played after Wimbledon (where I assume he received the injury) was Cincinnati. His ranking had dropped to #10 but he would have qualified based on the withdrawals of #2 Nadal, #3 Roddick and #4 Hewitt. #11 Nalbandian won.

Both Bertens and Svitolina lost early this week thus not improving their standing in the race. With Serena not playing this year there is only one from the current top 10 not going to Shenzhen. Right now it's Svitolina, but Bertens is in a more precarious position. Both are going to play four straight weeks to try to nab the last spot.

    Yes, advantage Svitolina because of Bertens 16th, 15th and 14th results ( 100, 180, 180).
