Wawrinka might be in a position to challenge for #1 before his USO defence. Particularly if he wins tonight.

ATP top 10 with Miami points substracted

    1. Murray 11960 (OUT)
    2. Djokovic 7915 (OUT)
    3. Wawrinka 5695
    4. Federer 4305
    5. Raonic 4300
    6. Nadal 4135
    7. Nishikori 4130
    8. Thiem 3375
    8. Cilic 3375
    10. Tsonga 3265 (OUT)

Roger has a viable path to #4 going into a clay season. If he doesn't play or lose early as low as #7 is a possibility.

The only reason this is of importance is that top 4 seeding for the remaining slams would be helpful.

Re: Talk about Rankings (TAR :))

I had posted this in the Challenger Random, Random thread yesterday, but that appears not to show up in the RPB, so I'm re-posting here.

    Drummondville Challenger

    Semi-Finals

    Bemelmans (BEL) d. Smith (AUS) 64 61
    Shapovalov (CAN) d. Auger-Aliassime (CAN) 75 63

    Final

    Shapovalov d. Bemelmans 63 62

It was a good three weeks for the two Canadian teens over a swing of tournaments through Quebec.

Shapavalov actually went undefeated. Two weeks ago, he won a Futures event in Gatineau. Last week, he reached the semi-finals of a Futures event in Sherbrooke, but had to give a walk-over due to illness. This week, he won a Challenger event in Drummondville.

Auger-Aliassime lost in the second round in Gatineau, then won the tournament in Sherbrooke and lost in the semi-final in Drummondville to eventual champion Shapovalov.

As points for Futures events get added to the ratings with a one week delay (and with there being no rankings update last week, due to Indian Wells being a two-week event), points from all three results get added onto the rankings computer today. As a result, both make big ratings jumps to new career highs. Shapovalov rises 59 spots to 194. Auger-Alliasime jumps 137 places to 374.

There are four RPB's now? No wonder I keep missing things. It took me the longest time to realize contest notices were now on the left side

Kristina Mladenovic has a great chance of rising to #1 in doubles for the first time (needs to reach final). Vesnina can do it as well by winning the title.

With Nishikori out we are now one win away (Nadal def Sock) from reassembling the greatest top 5 in tennis history. 50 Slam titles in total (18+14+12+3+3) and everyone with at least three.

Re: Talk about Rankings (TAR :))

The clay season is upon us so it's time to analyse the rankings situation (ATP for now).

Federer +2 to #4, Nadal +2 to #5, Nishikori -3 to #7. Federer is very close to securing #4 seed for RG with an outside chance for #3 in case Stan has a poor clay season. Nadal has work to do with Monte Carlo and Barcelona defence coming up.

Here is the race so far:

    1. Federer 4045
    2. Nadal 2235
    3. Wawrinka 1500
    4. Dimitrov 1365
    5. Tsonga 1255
    6. Thiem 1140
    7. Sock 1130
    8. Goffin 1055
    9. Carreno Busta 985
    10. Kyrgios 855

    Notables: Murray #12, Djokovic #22, Raonic #15

Clearly some of those names in the race rankings aren't going to end up in the final top 10, but I actually expect 6-7 of them to do so.

Another interesting list is projected rankings in five weeks (-MC, Barcelona and few minor ATP events)

    1. Murray 11600
    2. Djokovic 7905
    3. Wawrinka 5605
    4. Federer 5125
    5. Raonic 4165
    6. Nishikori 4010
    7. Cilic 3385
    8. Thiem 3325
    9. Nadal 3235
    10. Tsonga 2905

Nadal has to dominate in the next 5 weeks just to stay put. It does become easier for him afterwards as the rest of his 2016 clay season was not as spectacular (WF in Rome, SF in Madrid and early loss at RG).
