Re: Talk about Rankings (TAR :))
Any of you rankings gurus have an idea where Venus ends up in the rankings next week? I'd think she's assured her self an Olympic spot now

52 if she loses to Sharapova, 43 if she loses in the semis (one spot ahead of Clijsters), 37 if she loses in the final, and 29 if she wins the tournament. Those are all approximate rankings, but they'll probably end up being right.

No, he is not. Nadal gets it back by winning the tournament this week regardless of Federer's result. Finals will be enough if Roger loses to Seppi today.

This is where I get confused. Fed drops out in the R16 last year and Nadal was RU. Say Fed and Nadal meet in the final here in Rome and Nadal wins. Doesn't Fed pick up 510 points over his finish last year and Nadal picks up 400 points over his finish last year. Fed is already 325 points ahead of Nadal, doesn't Fed end up 425 points ahead of Nadal in this scenario?

Last year's Rome points are off already (it was played 1 week earlier in 2011) and therefore neither man is defending anything this week.

Me thinks the one week off thing is going to haunt us all year

Looking ahead it looks like the Olympics set things right again, so starting with Canada the weeks then line up with last year again.

Top 20! Hey, where's that Canadian flag icon??

Re: Talk about Rankings (TAR :))
Where is this coming from? I also saw someone post on twitter (I think) on the weekend that Raonic was the first Canadian man to be ranked in the top 20.
Not yet. He's ranked 22nd in the most recent rankings. I don't know if people are looking at the live rankings site (http://live-tennis.eu/) where he's currently 20th, but that's only including the first two days of French Open results, that is not even all the first round matches. Almost all the guys around him are still playing too; he needs to win at least a couple more matches to secure a spot in the top 20 in the next ranking update. So everybody calm down; his time will come soon enough. He has 90 points to defend in the grass court month (I won't call it a "season") and then nothing at all over July, August and September.

Re: Talk about Rankings (TAR :))
I was wondering that too - maybe the seeding had people confused. I think Raonic will need to be to the 4th round to have a reasonable shot at being top 20 after the French Open. It will happen sooner or later and he really has only one win to defend between now and September. If he makes the 2nd round of Wimbledon he will have defended his points - his Halle result can be replaced by his result in Tokyo last fall - hopefully he'll do better at Halle this year - though looks like a tough field - Federer & Nadal.

Re: Talk about Rankings (TAR :))
Two more wins would take him past Dolgopolov and Nishikori (both out of RG) and pretty much guarantee top 20. Anything less than that would need a lot of luck.
