That's really a huge bummer. He might be the only Australian who I think might play better instead of worse at the AO.

Re: '20 AO WTA Draw & Discussion

Venus/Gauff round one honestly pisses me off.

I clocked the potential Serena/Yastremska R16 too. Tennis gods, PUHLEEZE let that happen. I so want to see Yastremska retire when she's down match...

Re: '20 AO ATP Draw & Discssion

Hey! It looks like Zverev will, at least, make the 2nd round! If Cecchinato was playing a soggy piece of paper, I'd bet the house on the soggy piece of paper.

    Re: ATP 250 WTA P Adelaide 1/12-1/18 2020

It didn't look great for Sloane to lose 2 and 2 to Rodionova (who's barely in the top 200) last round, but this adds an extra layer of 'oof.'

Meanwhile, Vondrousova hasn't played since Wimbledon,...
  6. Re: 'AO Qualies Draws, OoP & Discussion 1/14/20 - 1/18/20

Just wanted to point out that I'd bet they leave a few practice courts open so the top players have enough flexibility to practice when the air index is the healthiest. They're not going to say...

Mirza high-fiving her son is adorable and inspirational.

With Radwanska, it always makes me laugh that she went full glam about two seconds after retiring.

Mirza won in her first match back, bringing her up to #653 in the live rankings.

    Next up is King/McHale.

Re: ATP WTA GS AusOpen 1/20-2/3 2020

Winners: I'd consider taking Djokovic over the field. He's a huge favorite. For the women, you can take your pick from anybody in the top 12, but I thought both Serena and Pliskova looked great last...

Totally shocked that Nadal didn't play doubles. I wonder if he tweaked something.

Only the top two get a bye? I'm not sure I've ever seen that before. How odd.

    Re: ATP Cup 1/3 - 1/12 2020

    Kyrgios/De Minaur just beat Murray/Salisbury 3-6 6-3 18-16.

Lots of match points saved on both sides, including Jamie Murray serving at 16-15.

15-15, De Minaur's serve is chipped right to the...

Bouchard just beat Garcia 6-4 6-4. I'm not sure if that's more of a good win for Bouchard, or bad loss for Garcia.

Winning two matches in a row is great news for Bouchard, though. She hasn't...

    Re: WTA P Brisbane 1/6 - 1/12 2020

Collins just destroyed Putintseva 6-1 6-0. She's starting the year on fire. Her seeding will have her drawn against a top 8 seed at the AO. She's probably the most dangerous option in that range...

I'm always a little perturbed by the slack-jawed vacant-eyed expression actresses are forced to make.

I think it might sit in the uncanny valley. Nobody makes that expression in real life.

FYI, Andrew Scott was in a great episode of Black Mirror. Also, the show Kirstin Dunst was nominated for is utterly bizarre in the best way. I really enjoyed it.

I think composure is a good way to predict success for young players. "Fiery" is overrated, in my opinion.

    Ready to get angry?

One of the matches played yesterday was #34 vs #161. Seems like a good reason to bump the #1 woman in the world, who is also Australian.

  24. Re: WTA Int'l Auckland, Shenzen 1/6 - 1/12 2020

Shenzen is an interesting draw. The 5-8 seeds are all just out of seeding range for the AO. This is the last tournament that counts, and they'd all need at least a QF.
