Re: '19 USO Day 10 OoP & Discussion

I thought they said those were his first of the match. Looks like they were his first of the set. Either they misspoke, or I misunderstood.

But speaking of incorrect facts, Chris Evert just...

That was an incredible final set. Monfils kept falling behind, coming back, falling behind, coming back. And some amazing points in there too.

    Monfils forces a final-set tie-breaker, despite double-faulting THREE times at 5-6.

And another to start the tie-breaker. And apparently those were his first the whole match!!

Re: '19 USO Day 9 OoP & Discussion

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? Disagreeing with the commentators?

(According to scoreboard.com, Konta made 35 unforced errors (that's almost half of Svitolina's 71 points won). ...

Yes, but she's 27, so she's had 5-6 years after university (and she was playing while there). She's had a lot of time to find her game.

On the other hand, as they said after the match, she's...

That was an epic choke by Goerges. Serving for the match at 5-4, she hit three double faults, the first of which barely made it to the net (Rennae Stubbs said that was the worst second serve she'd...

39 unforced errors. 0/9 on break points. Quite pitiful performance today.

Qiang Wang trounces Barty in the first set 6-2. I quite like what Virginia Wade said on the commentary:

"Barty is afraid to give her any angles because Wang is so good at finding better ones."

Wow, Naomi really came to play tonight. She was totally on.

And I have to say I was happy to see Gauff lose. The ESPN hype train was absolutely unbearable. Let's give it some time.

Re: '19 USO Day 6 OoP & Discussion

ESPN has been having an orgasm all day in anticipation of the Osaka-Gauff (or I should say Gauff-Osaka) match. Don't know the last time they would have been this worked up about a third-round match.

Quite possible, but for someone who had only a handful of weeks inside the top 50 until she was 23 1/2 (and then spent most of seven years in the top 10), she's had a very good run.

Huh? 10 people picked a player they've never heard of before (and it's not like he was playing a wild card either). Don't think I'd ever have the nerve for that.
