Re: '19 USO Day 14 OoP & Discussion

That match almost killed me! Medvedev is an fin star. Rafa - I would have fainted under that much pressure.

Both players seem really tight so far. Medvedev is letting Rafa get away with some shockingly passive shots. And vice versa.

And Rafa's figuring out the drop shot, which Berrettini has been deploying as a bit of a secret weapon (with literally perfect success until the last one in the tiebreak - like 7 for 7 or something)....

What a tiebreak! Berrettini choked that away - no two ways about it. I think Charlie02123 used to talk about how the Big Three don't so much "raise their game" in pressure moments, but they simply...

Pam was interviewing BJK, who said her "prayer" is that Serena wins here and goes on to Australia and break the record specifically there. Pam replied "I think I can understand why that's your...

I have never seen Serena have so much success with the drop shot as she's had this tournament. And it's wild because her drop shot is, relatively speaking, bad. She's just picking the timing...

Re: '19 USO Day 11 OoP & Discussion

So Svitolina just played two pretty good games, held 7 total game points and is down 0-2...and Serena is not at her top level yet....but she's quickly getting there. Elina is not a happy camper.

I hope Serena learned her lesson from this first game about leaving high short balls in Svitolina's backhand strike zone. Not a great strategy and she lost three rallies in quick succession doing...

Also, what's the over/under on an ESPN commentator referring to Gauff/Osaka as a preview of "future Slam finals?" 15 minutes?

Also also, the on-court interviewer pointed out that Osaka was the...

Re: '19 USO Day 4 OoP & Discussion

Coco Gauff has been hitting some of the worst drop shots I have ever seen at any level (one landed past the service line) but she's won about 80% of the points when she pulls it out, because she's...

I think Coco is visibly exhausted. Her serve is going off a bit, her footwork is a little less intense, but man is she fighting hard. I think she needs to break Babos ASAP.

Babos played her best series of points to hold serve from break point down and yelled a huge "Come on!" Coco held serve from 30-30 a few minutes later and threw out an equally loud "come on!" and...

I'm so thrilled for her. Halep is a brutal matchup for her playstyle but she executed exactly as well as she needed to. Huge win!

I could have sworn Benoit Paire was on the verge of going up a double break in the 5th set. He's got to be amongst the least bankable talents in the sport.
